Show Telecommunications & Business Education Telecommunications & Business Education General Information 4. Any deviation from the printed graduation requirements must be approved by the department chair prior to taking the course(s) in question. 5. Candidates for the Bachelor's Degree must complete the Business Foundations requirements from the College of Business and Economics, as outlined under each four-year degree on the following pages. These courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.5 before enrolling in any College of Business courses numbered 301 or above. It is recommended that these courses be taken in the freshman and sophomore years. 6. English EN111 (4) and EN112 (4) must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.65. PROGRAM: ADMINISTRATIVE SYSTEMS MAJOR-BACHELOR DEGREE This program is being discontinued and no new students will be accepted into the major after July 1, 1995. Current students in the program will be able to complete their degree using courses now being offered through the Telecommunications & Business Education Department. These students should see the Department Chair in order to plan the remaining portion of their program of study. Business Foundations Requirements from the College of Business: (12 credit hours with a GPA of 2.5): These requirements must be completed for entry into all classes numbered 301 or above offered through the College of Business and Economics. • Econ 202 (4)*, SS203 (4)*; Quant 260 (4)*. * Math 107 or equivalent is a prerequisite for Econ 202, SS203, and Quant 260. Composite Teaching Major Emphasis: • An overall GPA of 3.00 (or 3.25 for the last 45 credit hours) and admission to the Teacher Education Program are required of all Education Majors. (See admission requirements for Teacher Education.) Note: Educ 300 and 400 classes are open only to students admitted to Teacher Education. • 193 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty (60) of the total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). Major Requirements: • College of Education Certification Program: (See Teacher Education Program.) Students obtaining a Business Education Composite Teaching major must satisfy the Department of Teacher Education requirements for certification in sequence. Support courses required (3-5 credits): choose one of the following: ChFam SSI50 (5) or Psych 314 (3) or ChFam 450 (3). TBE 325 (3) will meet the Commun HU102 requirement. • Specific Major Requirements (12 credits): TBE *360 (3), *361 (3), *363 (3), and 499 (3). * Must be taken prior to student teaching. • Elective requirements (8 credits): Eight credit hours from the following areas with the approval of an advisor: Telecommunications & Business Education, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Information Systems and Technologies, Management, Marketing, Computer Science, and Sales and Service Technology. Office Technologies Emphasis: • Specific Major Requirements (34 credit hours): TBE 301 (3); 302 (4), 309 (2), 311 (3), 355 (4), 356 (3), 410 (3), 489 (3), 499 (3); Acctng 230 (3); LibSci 315 (3). PROGRAM: BUSINESS EDUCATION TEACHING MINOR • To quality for this minor, students must have a secondary education teaching major. See Teacher Education admissions and program requirements. • The Business Education Teaching Minor must be cleared with the TBE department by the beginning of a student's junior year.**++ • 29 credits are required. • Required courses for all emphases (25 credit hours): TBE 201 (4), 220 (3), 250 (4), 270 (3), 300 (2), 360 (3)*, 361 (3)*, 363 (3)*. • Required Electives (4 credit hours): Choose from the following: TBE 202 (3), 307 (2), 308 (1), 309 (2), 310 (3), 325 (4), 353 (3), Acctng 230 (3). *Must be taken before student teaching in that area. **Keyboarding skills will be assessed by your advisor. ++Must student teach one class in your minor areas. PROGRAM: BUSINESS/MARKETING EDUCATION TEACHING MINOR • To quality for this minor, students must have a secondary education teaching major. PROGRAM: OFFICE TECHNOLOGIES ASSOCIA TE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE General Requirements: • At least 20 hours from the general education courses listed in the catalog including at least one course in each of the four areas of Humanities (HU and HL), Natural Sciences (LS and PS), Social Sciences (SS and SB), and Personal Development (PD). • English EN111 and EN112. Math 105 or equivalent. • 93 total hours are required. TELECOMMUNICATIONS & BUSINESS EDUCATION COURSES - TBE (Formerly BEAS courses) 101. Elementary PC Keyboarding and Applications (3) An automated approach to learning the keyboard and the keyboarding of letters, reports, and tables using microprocessors. 104. Speedbuilding Keyboarding (3) Keyboard review. Intensive drill work for speed pertaining to individual student assessment as determined by using word processing software on a microprocessor. 150. Business Mathematics by Calculating Machines (4) Problems in percentage, discount, simple and compound interest, merchandising, taxes, etc., solved by calculators. Student Services Interdisc.
