Show Graduation Requirements Graduation Requirements General Informatio GRADUATION Supervisor: Lynn Schow Location: Administration Building, Room 210 moving to Student Service Center, Room 136 Telephone: 626-673916740 Commencement Commencement ceremonies are held once a year in June. Students who complete degree requirements during the previous summer, autumn or winter quarters or who apply to complete during spring quarter will be listed in the printed commencement program and are encouraged to take part in the ceremonies. Commencement information will be mailed to all students included in the printed commencement program. This information may also be obtained from the Graduation Office. Graduation Application and Verification Process • Students should submit a completed application for graduation to the Graduation Office at least three quarters prior to the quarter they plan to finish. A nonrefundable graduation fee must be paid to the Cashier. • Applicants will receive a written evaluation from the graduation office which will indicate any deficiencies in university, core and general education requirements. Students must take the evaluation to their major and minor departments for a "sign-off." The department will list, on the student's graduation record, any deficiencies in department requirements. All possible care is taken in checking student records for graduation; however it is the sole responsibility of the student to verify all requirements for a degree. • The Graduation Office will verify each student's completion after grades have been received for the student's graduating quarter. Students who do not complete graduation requirements during their anticipated quarter or who change their graduation quarter should notify the graduation office of their new anticipated quarter. • Diplomas will be sent and degrees will be posted to student transcripts the quarter following completion. General Requirements for Graduation - All Degrees • Grades: Students must earn a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 for all university work. No more than 30 credit hours of D grade may be applied toward graduation. A college or department may reject any or all D grade work toward major or minor requirements. • Graduation credit hours must be earned after students have matriculated. Credit hours earned prior to matriculation must be approved by the Graduation Office. • All financial obligations to the university must be cleared. General Requirements for Master's Degrees Weber State offers a Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) and a Master of Professional Accountancy degree (M.P.Acc). Program requirements are outlined in the department listings for Education and Accounting. General Requirements for Bachelor's Degrees • Credit hour requirement: A minimum of 183 graduation credit hours must be completed. • Upper division credit hours: A minimum of 60 credit hours of upper-division work must be completed. • Residency requirement: A minimum of 45 credit hours must completed in residence at WSU. Students must be registered during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to their graduation. • Degree requirements: One of the following bachelor's degrees must be specified and the core and appropriate general education requirements must be met as described in the General Education section. Some departments may specify completion of specific general education courses. Bachelor of Arts (B A) Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) This degree may be earned only by Visual Arts majors, see the Visual Arts Department section for the application process. Bachelor of Science (BS) Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) See the Bachelor of Integrated Studies section for information about program requirements and the application process. • Foreign language requirement: The BA degree includes a foreign language requirement which may be met by one of the following: 1. Completion of WSU foreign language course HU203 with a grade of C+ or higher. Comparable transfer credit may also meet this requirement. (Students with prior language experience should see the Foreign Language Department for information about challenging this course.) 2. Completion of any upper-division WSU foreign language course (except 330) with a grade of C or higher. Comparable transfer credit may also meet this requirement. 3. Documentation of a proficiency level of "Intermediate Low" or better through an examination administered by the WSU Foreign Language Department or through an examination by a recognized testing agency. 4. Students for whom English is a second language may meet the BA foreign language requirement by • verifying their proficiency in their (non-English) native language in cooperation with the Foreign Language Department and • verifying their proficiency in English as a second language by either passing the ESL Exit Test or passing the ESL Special Examination. • Major requirements: Curriculum and program requirements for each major are described in the academic department listings. See the beginning page for each college for a list of available major programs. • Minor requirements: • Some major programs require a minor program. Minor program requirements are described in the academic department listings. See the beginning page for each college for a list of available minor programs. General Requirements for Associate's Degrees • Credit hour requirement: A minimum of 93 graduation credit hours must be completed. • Residency requirement: A minimum of 30 credit hours must be completed in residence at WSU. Students must be registered during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to graduation. • Degree requirements: One of the following associate's degrees must be specified and core and general education requirements must be met as described in the General Education section. Some departments may specify completion of specific general education courses. (Associate's degree candidates are exempt from the state requirement in American History, Government, and Economics.) Associate of Arts (AA) Associate of Science (AS) • Foreign language requirement: The Associate of Arts (AA) degree includes a foreign language requirement which may be met by the requirements for the B A degree or one of the following: 1. Completion of WSU foreign language course HU103 with a grade of C+ or higher. Comparable transfer credit may also meet this requirement. (Students with prior language experience should see the Foreign Language Department for information about challenging this course.) 2. Documentation of a proficiency level of "Novice High" or better through an examination administered by the WSU Foreign Language Department or through an examination by a recognized testing agency. 3. Documentation of three years of the same language completed in high school with a minimum grade of B. • Program Requirements: • Academic Departments Curriculum and program requirements for associate's degrees in specific departments are described in the academic department listings. See the beginning page of each college for a list of available associate's degree programs. • General Studies The Associate of General Studies includes a student's choice of electives in addition to the core and general education requirements. • Awarding of multiple degrees: The bachelor's degree supersedes the associate's degree, and the two degrees cannot be awarded simultaneously. The associate's degree must be completed and received at least one year prior to qualifying for a bachelor's degree. General Requirements for Associate of Applied Science Degrees • Credit hour requirement: A minimum of 93 graduation credit hours must be completed. • Residency requirement: A minimum of 30 credit hours must be completed in residence at WSU. Students must be registered during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to graduation. • Degree requirements: Core and general education are specified by each program and include at least the following: English 111 and one other course in written or oral communication; math may be required by specific programs; general education - 20 credit hours to include one course in each of the four areas: Humanities (HU or HL), Natural Science (PS or LS), Social Science (SS or SB), and Personal Development (PD). • Program requirements: Curriculum and requirements for associate of applied science degrees in specific departments are described in the academic department listings. General Requirements for Institutional Certificates • Residency requirement: A minimum of 15 credit hours must be completed in residence at WSU.
