This time is set aside for the campus community to take advantage of the various programs available. The design for Open Hour is broad in nature and consists of campus, departmental, and organizational activities. The Open Hour is designed to achieve two basic goals: to expand the educational and cultural horizons of the Weber State University campus community, and to create and enhance the sense of community at WSU by fostering increased interaction and mutual support between faculty, staff, students, and the community. Formal programs during Open Hour include: • Convocations Lecture Series This convocation series supplements formal classroom education by bringing in speakers of national stature and/or authorities in diversified areas. Attendees have the opportunity to examine specific issues, be introduced to famous people and their lifestyles and values, and explore new and unique ideas. • Issues Forum The Issues Forum uses debates between members of the campus community, panel discussions, seminars, and question and answer sessions. The goal of this program is to enhance critical thinking and stimulate thought on a variety of topics, from local political issues to basic philosophical questions, and expose the campus community to scholarly dialogue which will expand their awareness. • Senate Activities The seventeen academic and special constituency senators are required to present programs which highlight and serve their constituency. The senators work in conjunction with their respective Dean, department, and area councils to produce at least two programs per quarter. These activities encourage more one-on-one interactions among students, faculty, and staff.
