Issues in Multicultural Education (3) Examines the effects and impact of historical, political, social, and economic issues which affect teaching and learning for students from diverse cultural and ethnic groups. 513. Teaching for Cultural Diversity (3) Develops skills and knowledge in designing and applying effective teaching strategies to meet the interests and abilities of students from the diverse ethnic and cultural groups. 514. Language Arts in a Bilingual Setting (3) Develops skills for planning and implementing teaching strategies to enhance the teaching of oral and written language for students with limited English-speaking proficiency. 577. Field Experience in Multicultural Education (3-6) Students will be provided an opportunity to gain experience in teaching and working with culturally diverse students and to apply what they have learned from the multicultural education core classes in a field based experience. 590. Teaching Reading in Secondary Schools (3) S Basic principles of reading instruction; nature and scope of the total reading program; methods, materials and organization of the developmental and corrective reading program in the secondary schools.
