PROGRAM: PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND TEACHING MAJORS-BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: WSU Core Requirements (see index). General Education Requirements (see index). Commun HU102, Zool LS201, and TBE PD170 are required for P.E. majors and Psych SSI01 is recommended. A teaching minor is required. P.E. Teaching Majors refer to Teacher Education requirements. Physical Education majors must have a 2.85 GPA or better in major courses. No more than one "D" grade is acceptable. Teaching majors must achieve an overall 3.00 GPA. 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). • Students obtaining a Physical Education teaching major must meet Teacher Education admission and certification requirements (see Teacher Education program). PROGRAM: DUAL CERTIFICATION OF SECONDARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL For individuals holding a secondary physical education certificate who desire to work in the elementary schools, dual certification is available. See the department chair for more information. PROGRAM: HEALTH PROMOTION MINOR - (SCHOOL, COMMUNITY, WORKSITE, CLINICAL) Refer to the College of Health Professions for Health Promotion Major requirements. General Requirements: • Minors must achieve a GPA of 2.25 or better in minor courses. • A background in biomedical sciences is prerequisite: (General Education Science) HthSci 111 (5), 112 (5), and 113 (5), Biomedical Core or Micro LSI 15 Elementary Public Health (4), Zool LS201 Human Physiology (5), Zool LS202, Human Anatomy (4) • Students who desire to qualify for taking the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) national examination must complete a total of 37 hours in courses with a Health prefix. • School PE majors cannot duplicate courses. • Teaching minors must meet Teacher Education admission and certification requirements. PROGRAM: NUTRITION EDUCATION MINOR General Requirements: • Minors must achieve a GPA of 2.5 or better in minor courses. • Prior departmental approval is required. • A minimum of 12 credit hours must be upper division courses. PROGRAM: BACHELOR OF INTEGRA TED STUDIES (BIS) Requirements: • Consult the Interdisciplinary Programs section of the catalog for specific requirements associated with the BIS degree. • The student must take a minimum of 25 credit hours each from at least three (3) different academic departments or recognized disciplines. A student has numerous possibilities in developing a BIS degree using the academic disciplines both in HPERD and campus wide. • The course of study in each discipline shall be approved by the appropriate program director in HPERD.
