Show 42 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH Freshman Orientation Day On Friday, September 13, 1940, a Fresh man Orientation Day will be inaugurated at Weber College. The morning will be devoted to (1) a mass assembly where the incoming new students will be greeted by the sophomores, student officers, and faculty; (2) various group meetings where pertinent information concerning specific fields will be discussed. The afternoon will be devoted to final registration. Steps in Registration To complete his registration, a student should take the following steps: 1. Check with the registrar's office to ascertain if his high school credits and previous college credits are on file. 2. If possible, plan a tentative class program before he makes a registration appointment. It is to the advantage of the student to select a major field of interest before he registers. 3. Make an appointment to register through the registrar's office: by telephone, by letter, or by applying in person. Specify, if possible, a field of major interest. If undecided as to a major, inform the Registrar. 4. At the time of appointment, apply at the registrar's office for a Registration Booklet. At this time the student will be assigned to the adviser most qualified to assist him in registering. 5. Take his tentative program with him to his adviser, and after his adviser has approved and signed card No. 3 in the booklet, proceed to fill out his Registration Booklet. 6. Follow instructions on the coupons in the booklet, and after the booklet is completely filled out, present it to the clerical staff at the designated tables in the registration room in the lobby of the gymnasium. His booklet will then be checked and his name placed on class rolls. 7. Present his Registration Booklet to the Registrar, who will be located in the registration room. A final check on his program will be made and fees assessed. 8. Make payment of tuition and fees, or arrangement for the payment of tuition and fees with the Treasurer. Make these arrangements before or at the time of registration, and in no event later than Monday of the second week of instruction of each quarter. A late registration fee is charged all students who do not pay or make arrangements to pay by Monday of the second week of instruction of each quarter. 9. A student's registration is completed when he has filed his book let with the Registrar and when the Treasurer has indicated to the Registrar that fees have been paid or arrangements have been made for the same. WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 43 Grades and Grade Points The grading system consists of four passing grades: A, B. C. D; failure: E; incomplete: I; withdrawn: W. Exceptional accomplishment is denoted by the grade of A; superior, B; average, C; and inferior, D. When a student is dropped from a class because of inferior work or excessive absences, a final mark of E is recorded. Grade points or honor points are assigned as follows: Each hour of A grade counts three points; B grade, two points; C grade, one point; D grade, no point; and E grade, minus one point. The total of honor points thus obtained is divided by the total hours registered. A ratio of 2.50 represents high honors. A student must make a ratio of at least 1.0 for graduation. Fees Students entering the winter or spring quarters pay the registration, class, health service, lyceum, and towel fees in addition to those listed for the quarter. The student activity fee is $5.00 for students entering the winter quarter and $3.00 for students entering the spring quarter, rather than the amounts listed above. Students who are not legal residents of Utah are required to pay an annual non-resident registration fee of $45.00 in lieu of the resident registration fee of $10.00. Payment of the lyceum fee entitles the student to membership in the combined Ogden Community-Weber College Greater Concert Series for the year 1940-1941. Registration is not complete until fees for the quarter have been paid, or until satisfactory arrangements for their payment have been made with the Treasurer. The late registration fee will be assessed students who fail to complete their registration by Monday of the second week. The charge is 50 cents for Tuesday, $1.00 for Wednesday and the remainder of the second week, and $1.50 after the second week. As provided in the constitution of the Associated Students of Weber College, all regular students are required to take the activity card, which will admit them to all activities controlled by the Associated Students: athletic events, dramatic and musical productions, and one dance a month. In addition, a free subscription to the college newspaper and literary magazine is included. It has been found that this system provides an excellent means of fostering interest and participation in student activities. |
