Show Terminal and Vocational Curricula The following curricula are suggested for students who intend to complete their course at the end of their freshmen or sophomore year. It is recommended that the electives be chosen from the following: Economics 6; English 1, 2, 3; Business 13, 16, 81, 82, 84, 85. ACCOUNTING AND SALESMANSHIP This course is designed for those students who plan to enter the field of selling or those who plan to qualify for positions in bookkeeping or accounting. Freshman Year SHORT COURSE IN COMMERCIAL TRAINING Students desiring to receive intensive training in accounting, office machines, shorthand, typewriting, and other business subjects may do so. These students may gain proficiency in their concentrated field in a shorter period of time without meeting any definite curriculum. It is recommended that the electives be chosen from the folowing: Business 81, 84, 85; 91; English 1, 2, 3; Psychology, Philosophy, and Home Economics. TWO-YEAR SECRETARIAL SCIENCE COURSE This course is suggested for the students pursuing a four-year Secretarial Science course as offered at some of the higher institutions. Freshman Year It is recommended that electives be chosen from the following: Business 12, 16, 17; 84, 85; Economics 4, 5, 6; and Psychology 1. HOMEMAKING This course is designed for young women who desire a practical course in homemaking so that they may become qualified to manage their own home. This course is planned for those who intend to complete their formal education at the close of the second college year. Freshman Year Sophomore Year COMMERCIAL ART This course is designed for students who desire to enter the field of commercial art work. Training is offered in illustrating, advertisng, outdoor advertising, cartooninng, packaging, designing, poster work, and decoration. Students may elect a field of specialization in the last year. All media are used in the training program which are found in most modern practices. Two years of specialized training are offered, and students enter industry on an advanced apprentice level. NURSING This is a suggested curriculum for students who plan to complete two or more years of college work before entering a hospital for training in nursing. Freshman Year It is recommended that Business 91 and Physics 10 be included in the electives. NURSING This is a suggested curriculum for student-nurses who spend a limited number of hours in laboratory work in the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital and at the same time pursue the following program. Freshman Year RETAIL COOPERATIVE TRAINING This course is designed for students who desire to become expert in the field of retailing. Business firms of Ogden recommend employees to take the course, but the instructor may select a few qualified students to enter this cooperative training program. Laboratory (in stores) 15 hours weekly Retailing (Business 70 and 71) 2 hours daily Approved elective 1 hour daily AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION This course offers training in installation and service of domestic and commercial refrigeration, unit conditioners, warm air heating plants, stokers and controls. It also offers construction of sheet metal parts appurtenant to air conditioning installations. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered in this course. AUTO BODY RE-CONDITIONING This course is designed to provide adequate training and experience in all phases of metal finishing and metal preparation, including paint work, in order to produce a first class apprentice. One year of specialized pre-apprenticeship training is provided. AUTO SERVICE AND REPAIR This course offers training in the elementary and advanced phases of the auto service work including special units in motor tuning-up, auto electrics, heavy duty automotive equipment, and advanced motor work. The course aims to develop competent automobile repair apprentices. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered. CARPENTRY This course is planned for the training of competent skilled apprentices, well qualified to perform the various jobs in the trade of Carpentry through a study of the most efficient and modern methods of the trades. Graduates of this course are qualified to enter carpentry work on an advanced apprenticeship level. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered. GENERAL METALS This course is designed to offer the fundamental units of work required in several phases of the metal field. Students qualifying may use this work in airplane fabrication, ground mechanics, machine shops, welding, and the general metals industry. MACHINE SHOP This course provides for the thorough training required of a competent machinist apprentice. Experience is provided in floor work, bench work, and machine operation on popular units. Stu dents graduating enter the trade on an advanced apprenticeship level. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered. POWER MACHINE OPERATION This course is designed primarily to train operators for the garment-making industry. Students selected will be instructed in the care and operation, and methods of production required by the garment industries of Ogden. The successful completion of the work will qualify students to enter the garment industry. The training period for the work is approximately three months. Laboratory Practice and Trade Technical 4 hours daily WELDING This course is designed to qualify students as acetylene and electric art welder apprentices. The units of work offered provide ample practice in the various phases of work in the field of welding. This trainng is organized on the unit plan so that students may take as many weeks training as may be necessary to meet their needs in various fields, such as Auto Mechanics and Machine Shop, as well as train for professonal welding as a vocation. One year of special pre-apprentice training is offered. |
