A course in the study of the fundamental construction, operation, science and theory of the diesel motor and the airplane engine, including both the four-stroke and the two-stroke cycle principles. Special emphasis is given to the theory and materials used in construction and the operation principles, including actual motor demonstrations. This course is designed for students who have had some previous mechanical training. Meets daily. Four hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter. Nielsen Auto Driving Instruction Course. A course designed to instruct drivers and prospective drivers in the safe and correct auto driving principles, including state, county and city traffic regulations, and first aid and minor road side repairs. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, a student will be eligible to receive his driver's license. Three hours terminal credit. Spring. Nielsen Carpentry Type A Lorenzo Edward Peterson This course is planned to prepare young men to become apprentice carpenters and mill workers. Shop Practice. A course covering such units of work as: forms, framing, doors and sills,, roof framing, timber framing, exterior finish, construction forming, interior finish, building and setting stairs, concrete work, cabinet work, mill work, building hardware, woods, tools, equipment and power hand tools. A course covering the technical phases of shop practice and fundamental information necessary to do the practical work. Four hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. L. Peterson. Trade Related. A course covering the necessary related information needed by a learner to become a first class workman eligible to enter the trade as an advanced apprentice. The work includes trade codes, steel square, labor problems, light frame construction, blue print reading, employer-employee relations, and other trade information. Three hours terminal credit. Commercial Art Type A Farrell Reuben Collett This course is designed to prepare students to enter the field of commercial art and commercial advertising in its various phases. Commercial Art Laboratory. A course including drawing with pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink; newspaper advertising layout; screen process printing; posters; jacket design; color; sign writing; package design; color; illustration; cartooning; and out-of-doors advertising. A student is allowed to specialize in one of the above fields in which he WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 93 can show special ability, or he may follow the entire course covering the entire field. A course covering the technical phases of the art laboratory class, and containing fundamental information necessary for practical work. Meets seven hours a week. Five hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring Collett Trade Related. Supplementary information for the art laboratory and trade technical classes, covering trends, new developments, and related information. Meets daily. Three hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring Collett General Metal Type B Clyde M. Decker Edward Christian Larsen This course in general metals is designed to offer training in the fundamental units in the metal working field. Students qualifying may use this work in airplane fabrication, ground mechancs, machine shop, and other operative jobs in the metal working field. This course is also valuable to students who have not yet decided upon their vocational choice. The work in this field affords them an opportunity to sample the work done in the different metal working fields indicated, and allows them to make proper vocational adjustments. In cases where a student has applied for entrance into one of the major fields of the vocational department in which no vacancy exists at the time, the student will be advised to enter this general metal trade and await his turn for placement into the trade he has desired. Shop Practice. A course devoted to shop work which consists of the elementary phases of the following metal fields: sheet metal, including lay-out and light metal construction; machine shop, including floor and bench work; lathe, drill press, and power cutting; heat treating and forge work; elementary welding, including both arc and gas welding. A course in the technical phases of the shop practice explaining the how and why of all operations given in connection with the shop practice. No separate class is held. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Decker, Larsen Trade Related. A course including the necessary information needed by an apprentice in entering industry and becoming a first class journeyman. The work includes the necessary mathematics, human relations problems, consumer understanding, labor and economic problems, safety and health instruction. Meets daily.
