Show 60 Transfer Students: At Brigham Young University a student has completed the general education requirements except those in religion and American Heritage and Institutions if he has graduated from any accredited, two-year collegiate institution having a pattern of general education similar to that at B.Y.U. The same is true if he transfers to B.Y.U. from an accredited four-year college or university having a pattern of general education similar to that at B.Y.U. provided that he presents satisfactory evidence of having completed the general education requirements of his former college. Specific Requirements: American Heritage and Institutions. Students with highly superior preparation, as determined by a test on American history and institutions, will be excused from the requirement. English Composition. The requirement is six semester hours for the majority of students and four semester hours for the superior group, to be determined by testing. Health. The requirement is two semester hours. For students who present evidence of superior preparation, as evidenced by an examination, the requirement will be waived. Physical Education. Two semester hours or the equivalent is the general requirement. The student enrolled three years in AFROTC is exempt from the physical education requirement. If he is enrolled two years in AFROTC, he is exempt from one semester hour of physical education. Physical Science. A well-built single course taught throughout the year is recommended. Such a course, however, may not be used by majors in physical science or other departments which require physical science courses for their majors. Biological Science. For the general student who has not had a good biology course in high school, a general biology course is required. Students whose entrance tests indicate good basic preparation in biological science should take more advanced courses which will be recommended by the departments. Students who score below a certain figure on an entrance test are required to complete one course from the basic list and must fill the remaining hours from a list of supplementary courses. Social Science. Five semester hours in two areas are required. Humanities and Fine Arts. Of the eight hours the student must take three hours in literature and some work in at least two other departments. A full year's beginning course of ten semester hours in a foreign language shall carry three hours toward the satisfaction of this group requirement and may reduce the requirement in literature to two hours.
