This curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the student who may later wish to continue her education at a higher institution. Food Selection and Preparation. The basic principles of selection, preparation of food for attractive, economical and well balanced meals; care, use, and selection of household equipment; storage and preservation of foods. Efficient work habits are stressed. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Four quarter hours. Autumn Winter, Spring. Jacobs 3. Meal Management for the Family. Practical experience in planning, buying, preparing, and serving nutritious meals that please and satisfy the family; considering the limitations of available money, time, energy, skill and equipment. Some experience in entertaining. Two lectures and two laboratories a week. Three quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Jacobs 5. Food Preparation for Men. A practical course for men students who desire information and skill in preparing nutritious, quick, inexpensive, and attractive meals. Should be of interest to students away from home, prospective missionaries, and husbands with working wives. One lecture and one laboratory period a week. Two quarter hours. Spring. Jacobs 6. Principles of Nutrition. Designed to help college men and women realize the importance of food and its relationship to good health and successful living. Discussion of the basic principles of nutrition and the present day problems in nutrition. It meets the requirements of Home Economics majors, Physical Education majors, nurses, and pre-medical students. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Spring. Jacobs 13. Money in Marriage. A study of the family and its money; plans for spending, saving and the buying of equipment as they relate to needs. Of interest to both men and women. Two quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Lehner 14. Management for Effective Living. A study of time management and energy, efficient methods of work, kitchen planning, management and use of equipment. Two quarter hours. Winter. Jacobs 16. Home Furnishings. This course is planned to help the students understand the use of the principles of art in the decoration of the home; to gain information in the selection and purchasing of carpets, window decorations, furniture, accessories and appliances for their future homes. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Lehner 17. Home Furnishing Skills. A laboratory course designed to give students skills in making, remodeling, and caring for home furnishings. Construction of lamp shades, slip covers, and upholstering furniture. Two quarter hours. Spring. Mumford 18. Personal Development. Self improvement and self expression through grooming, selection and styling of clothing, voice, poise, weight control, and social etiquette. Two quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 21. Basic Clothing Construction. A basic course in clothing construction techniques in which emphasis is placed on suitability, becomingness, design. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 22. Advanced Clothing Construction. Pattern study on fittings, altering and techniques of design. A garment will be constructed from a basic pattern.
