During the first quarter of this year, there have been 20 thefts, 4 burglaries, and 3 assaults within our community. Our Neighborhood Watch Program leaders hope to assist residents to become more aware and willing to "look out for each other." To help achieve this, residents are invited to attend a workshop teaching observation skills to assist in effective neighborhood watch. The workshop will be as follows: Date: June 1, 2004 rime: 7:00 p.m. Place: City Office, 1140 W. 400 N. Subject: Neighborhood Watch Observation Skills Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) When called upon, CERT volunteers help respond to disasters in the community. For instance, this spring several CERT volunteers helped with flood control in a local subdivision after a particularly heavy storm. To become CERT qualified, you must attend two-day training course. The training is held on Saturday. The next course is scheduled for June 12 and 19. Classes run all day. You will learn basic emergency response skills from our Weber Fire District emergency responders. The cost is $25, which the city will reimburse to you if you attend both classes and receive your certificate. Volunteers are an important resource in an emergency or disaster situation. CERT trained individuals will n the skills to save lives and help families in the event of an emergency. This may be the last class held for the next year or more.
