Show Page 6 THE O. H. S. TIGER, JANUARY 31, 1923 GLEE CLUBS STAGE ASSEMBLY The Boys' and Girls' Glee Clubs had charge of the assembly last week. Four selections were rendered with much grace by each club, also a solo entitled "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" by Franklin Richards. Mr. Vallenga, alias Gadowsky, the Jan¬itor, entertained in costume with several clever solos. Sam Freedman surpassed his usual brilliancy in singing a clever parody on "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." The parody was written by Violet Letts and had a singular effect on the audience as many of them re¬ceived unexpected hits of sarcasm. It must be mentioned here that after the first verse Miss Booker absent- mindedly echoed with more than her usual vehemance, "Oh Boy! How we envy he!" The parody follows: MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN Ed Swenson from Bowlegged Ally Goes Edna Mae Booker to see He thinks of her each waking hour Oh Boy! how we envy he Paul Wilson and Evelyn Cory Are soft as two lovers can be When Paul puts his two arms around her Oh Boy! how we envy he. There's one who comes daily from Provo, And this laddie's name is Brady And Miriam Cain is his shero. Oh Boy! how we envy he. Phil Ring plays just like dear old Romeo To Virginia Scowcroft tweddle- de When he plays this tune neath her window Oh Boy! how we envy he. Kathryn Fisher, a beautiful dame, Is wooed by a lad named Murphy I wonder if he gives her choclets Oh Boy! how we envy he. Fred Chez is the shiek of the hour The girls all fall flat at his feet They worship the ground that he walks on Oh Boy! but our Freddie is sweet. Bring back, bring back, bring back My Freddie to me, to me, Bring back, bring back, Bring back my Freddie to me. —Violet Letts. —O-H-S— "Tobacco is a filthy weed; 'Twas the devil that sowed the seed. The Bear River team is getting along better in basketball than they did in football, which they proved by defeating the Davis five 31-32. Although the score was close and the winners only lead by one point, it was a great surprise to the Davis team and fans to lose to Bear River. Harris was the "leading man" for the Riverites, totaling eight field goals, while Lindford was the star for the Davis crew. N. T. CLUB TO BE COMPLIMENTED Remember the bleachers that were up on the stage during the Ogden- Weber game? The T. N. T. culb put them there. After making arrangements for the use of the seats, the T. N. T. mem¬bers went thead and built the stands. As the seats were made in a portable manner the job was possible but plenty. About three hours was taken to turn the trick and when it was done the Ogden hi had. something different to present the basketball fans. The addition of the bleachers to the seating capacity of the hall came in handy, as there was a record crowd in attendanec. Those who were seated on the new bleachers are un¬doubtedly more grateful than those who were lucky enough to get re¬serve seats. But we all wish to com¬pliment the T. N. T. club for their splendid efforts. —O-H-S— SOME MORE JUNIOR PLANS The juniors are planning another good assembly, to be given in the near future, next Wednesday to be exact. Not a street car was in sight; The sun was shining brightly, And it rained all day that night. It was a summer night in winter, The train was moving fast; A bare-foot boy with shoes on Stood sitting on the grass. It was evening and the rising sun Was setting in the West, And the little fishes in the trees Were huddling in their nest. The rain was pouring down, The moon was shining bright, And everything you could see Was hidden out of sight. While the organ pealed potatoes Lard was rendered by the choir; While the sexton rung the dishrag, Someone set the church on fire. Holy smoke! the parson shouted, In the rain he lost his hair— Now, his head resembles Heaven, For there is no parting there. "Tommy," asked the teacher, "what can you tell me of America's foreign relations at the present time?" "They're all broke," answered the brightest boy in class. —O-H-S— "A" CO. Mr. Shufflebarger reports that the button came off the coat several years ago, or thereabouts, and that he no longer has any use for the button since his sacrifice of his coat. It desired, a needle and thread will be given also, and it this does not satisfy, the price of a tailor's fee will be given without any hesitation on the part of Mr. Shufflebarger. -O-H-S— Show Your Face to Kreines READ THE ADS AND ACT! |
