AP Credit - Students who have completed advanced placement courses in high school and passed the Educational Testing Service examination with acceptable scores (5, 4, or 3) will be granted 12 hours of credit for each, and will be given general education credit where applicable. 2. CLEP Credit - All students are eligible to take the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) battery which, if passed satisfactorily, may satisfy most of the general area requirements. (See CLEP under Testing.) 3. Transfer Credit - Students who have completed all general education requirements for a bachelor's degree at another institution in the Utah System of Higher Education prior to transferring to Weber State will not be required to meet the above requirements, with the exception of the State requirements in American history, government, and economics; and the Math Competency requirement. Students who have not met the previous school's requirements must meet the general education requirements at Weber State. This agreement includes all Utah system institutions. Those transfer students from out-of-state institutions who have completed an Associate Degree program with a comparable General Education program to that at WSU will not be required to meet the above requirements. Student Services & Involvement General Information The departments and programs in Student Services provide services which assist students in meeting their psychological, sociological and academic needs. An over-all goal of Student Services is a commitment to solving student problems and in helping students become aware of services, activities and programs available to them. The personnel in Student Services will assist in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating programs to expand the students' personal development and enrich co-curricular opportunities. i ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT CENTER Location: Building 1, Room 145 moving to Student Service Center, Room 140 Telephone: 626-7913 Director: Marilyn Stephens-Burton (acting) The Academic Advisement Center assists all students at Weber State in achieving academic success. The Center helps students achieve academically through orientation, seminars, workshops and advisement. Advisement includes the General Education program; policies and procedures of Weber State; information regarding admissions, registration and graduation; referrals to academic departments and campus support services; and additional assistance and advisement to students on academic probation and suspension. ASSESSMENT AND PLACEMENT Location: Annex 13 moving to Student Service Center, Room 266 Telephone: 626-7414 Coordinator: Jim Felt The mission of Assessment/Placement is to assess the learning skills of freshman students and to assist them in formulating an individualized development plan. The assessment program is computerized and complimented by computerized tutorial programs. Assessment areas include reading, writing, math, study-skills, career goals, academic values and critical reasoning skills. BOOKSTORE Location: 4355 Harrison Blvd., Country Hills Plaza Shopping Center Telephone: 626-6352 Manager: Dee Schenck The Bookstore sells books and supplies needed for classwork at Weber State. Paperback books, stationery, art supplies, calculators, clothing and many other items are also available. Computers and software are available to students at discounted prices. (Note: Due to remodeling of the Shepherd Union, the Bookstore has been relocated to an off-campus location, 4335 Harrison Boulevard, in the Smith's Shopping area.) CAREER SERVICES Location: Shepherd Union, Room 280 moving to Student Service Center, Room 230 Telephone: 626-6393 Director: Steven Eichmeier Career Services helps students determine their career goals, find part-time and career employment, gain related work experience, and research career information utilizing a comprehensive career library. A professionally trained staff is available to assist with career planning, resume writing, interview techniques and placement strategies. This office also coordinates Cooperative Education and Internship Programs and on-campus job opportunities, including work-study. THE CENTER FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES Physically challenged and learning disabled students are eligible for specialized support services provided through this office. Service programs may include reading for the visually impaired, note taking and interpreting for the hearing impaired, and scribe services for the mobility impaired. Other services include registration assistance, specialized tutoring, counseling, academic advisement, and personal development programs. Student Services Interdisc.
