Show Upward Bound Support Services - Associate Students Association of Registered Organizations - Family Activity Card UPWARD BOUND SUPPORT SERVICES Location: Telephone: Coordinator: Annex 10 626-6760 Dave Trujillo Upward Bound Support Services is designed to provide financially assisted educational experiences for selected high school students in Davis and Weber Counties. Program personnel offer both a summer residential program at the university, and a follow-un academic-year program at six target high schools. VETERANS AFFAIRS Location: Telephone: Coordinator: Stewart Library, Room 4 moving to lower level of Administration Building 626-6042 John Vickroy The Veterans Affairs (VA) office is the liaison between Weber State University and the VA Regional Office. All veterans and dependents eligible for benefits under the G.I. Bill are certified for pay through this office, whose responsibility it is to monitor their progress. Veterans Affairs also coordinates with various campus departments to provide veterans and their dependents with a support system for successful educational experiences and the achievement of their goals. It provides qualified veterans academic support services that assist them in developing the academic skills necessary to be successful in their post- secondary education experience. WOMEN'S CENTER Location: Shepherd Union, Room 353 moving to Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-6090 Coordinator: Margarita Guerra Services of this Center are designed to provide a supportive environment to help students, returning to pursue their education, meet challenges, establish objectives, and achieve their academic goals. The following services, programs, and workshops are offered to assist students: advisement, academic and personal counseling, life transition skills workshops, Brown Bag Seminars, and emergency contact services. Student Involvement ASSOCIATED STUDENTS (ASWSU) Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 402/Skyroom Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: Judy Hurst The Associated Students of Weber State University (ASWSU) has a two-fold purpose: to represent the concerns, needs and desires of the student body, and to assist in the development of students. ASWSU is the university's official representative for all fee paying students and is committed to aggressively pursuing comprehensive internal and external student representation. ASWSU acknowledges dissimilar opinions by attempting to achieve a broad-based representation. ASWSU provides and supports programming and activities designed to involve and enrich the student body. ASWSU provides students with a variety of services and opportunities for community interaction and co-curricular learning unique to a campus setting. ASWSU is responsible to the student body of the university and provides answers and, whenever possible, solutions to student questions and concerns. Benefits to member organizations include limited financial assistance, guidance to University services, student leadership, the ARO Newsletter, the ARO Handbook, and opportunities for campus wide membership recruitment. ASWSU STUDENT SENATE Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 402/Skyroom Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: Tim Kamenar The Student Senate is the elected representative body of the Associated Students. There are seventeen senators, eight academic and nine special. These constituencies include: Applied Science & Technology, Arts & Humanities, Black Students, Business & Economics, Education, Health Professions, Latino-Chicano-Hispanic Students, Integrated & General Studies, International Students, Native American Students, Non-Traditional Students, Students With Disabilities, Residence Halls Students, Science Social & Behavioral Sciences, Traditional Students, and Veteran Students. Senators are involved in every aspect of University life including University Academic and Administrative Standing Committees, Faculty Senate, Student Fees, and campus programming. Student Senate meets every Monday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD (CAB) Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 402/Skyroom Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: Lisa Lisiecki For students who want to make the most of their college experience, the Campus Activities Board (CAB), is the ideal opportunity. CAB is comprised of nine student committees which plan, promote, and produce over 170 events each year, including weekly movies, nationally known entertainers, spontaneous midday events and annual events. Committees include: Campus Cinema, Campus Comedy Improv, Cultural Programs, Family Programs, Midday, Off Broadway, Special Events, Super Events and That's Entertainment. COLLEGE BOWL College Bowl is a form of Jeopardy-with-an- Attitude as THE Varsity Sport of the Mind. College Bowl consists of teams formed from clubs, honor societies, Greeks, or groups of friends which compete for campus honors and cash awards. The winning team and top players have an opportunity to represent Weber State in a regional tournament. Each team's knowledge and aptitude are tested on a variety of subjects, including history, mythology, current events, mathematics, international relations, literature and sports. FAMILY CONCERT SERIES Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 402/Skyroom Telephone: 626-6349 Advisors: Judy Hurst and Lisa Lisiecki The Family Concert Series presents quality entertainment at affordable prices for the benefit of the metropolitan Ogden area and the Weber State University community. Students are actively involved in selecting entertainment options. FAMILY ACTIVITY CARD Location: Shepherd Union Business Office, Room 230 Telephone: 626-7123 The Family Activity Card is available for students with dependents for the price of $10.00 per quarter. It admits a family into Weber State sporting events, Campus Activities Board activities, and selected Performing Arts programs. This card requires a picture I.D. for each family member, which is obtained at the location listed above.
