DeMoss Advisers: Charles Gee and John Kelly The General Motors Training Center provides short, current product information courses for GM technicians and service management personnel throughout Utah and several western states. The Center's resources are shared with a broader automotive community through activities such as automotive faculty development workshops. AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECH COURSES - AUTOSV 102. Brakes, Suspension and Steering (6) Operation, diagnosis and maintenance of brake, suspension and steering systems. Three one-hour lectures and three labs per week. 102A. Brakes (2) Principles, repair and adjustment of the brake system. One one- hour lecture and one lab per week. (102A & 102B constitute 102). 102B. Suspension and Steering (4) Principles, repair and adjustment of the suspension and steering systems. Two one-hour lectures and two labs per week. (102A& 102B constitute 102). 104A.G.M. Brakes (2) Principles of operation, diagnosis and repair of General Motors brake systems. One one-hour lecture and one lab per week. (104A and 104B). 104B. G.M. Chrysler Brakes (2) Principles of operation, diagnosis and repair of Chrysler brake systems. One one-hour lecture and one lab per week. 105B. Toyota Steering and Suspension (2) Principles of operation, diagnosis and repair of Toyota steering and suspension systems. One one-hour lecture and one lab per week. (106A and 106B constitute 106). 108. Non-Structural Analysis and Repair (6) Safety, welding processes, panel repair and replacement, trim application, water and wind leakage. Three one-hour lectures and three labs per week. 110. Principles of Technology I (2) Scientific concepts of force, work, rate, resistance and energy are applied to mechanical and fluid systems found in modern industry. Laboratory activities featuring measurement and instrumentation are emphasized. 112. Engines (6) Operational principles of basic gasoline and diesel engine systems and major overhaul of the complete automotive engine. Three one-hour lectures and three labs per week. 114. G.M. Engines (4) Operational principles and major overhaul procedures of General Motors engines. Two one-hour lectures and two labs per week. 115. Chrysler Engines (4) Operational principles and major overhaul procedures of Chrysler engines. Two one-hour lectures and two labs per week. 116. Toyota Engines (4) Operational principles and major overhaul procedures of Toyota engines. Two one-hour lectures and two labs per week. 118. Structural Analysis & Repair (6) Frame and unibody repair. Replacement of major panels, measuring and corrective pulling, and occupant safety systems. Three one-hour lectures and three labs per week. 120. Principles of Technology 11(2) Scientific concepts pertaining to electricity, heat, sound and light are applied to systems found in modern industry. Laboratory activities featuring measurement and instrumentation are emphasized. 122. Drive Mechanisms (8) Theory, operation, diagnosis and maintenance of the clutch, standard transmission, automatic transmission, drive lines, differentials and front wheel drive units. Four one-hour lectures and four labs per week. 122A. Three one-hour lectures and three labs per week. 130. Shop Mathematics (3) A, W Measurements, common and decimal fractions, square roots, surfaces, columns, capacities. Principles of algebra and geometry. Three lectures per week. 132. Specialized Electricity and Electronics (4) Fundamentals, use of meters, wiring diagrams, wiring repair, semiconductors, microprocessors and selected devices. Two two- hour lectures and one lab per week. 132A. Specialized Electricity (2) Fundamentals, use of meters, wiring diagrams, wiring repair and selected electrical devices. One two-hour lecture and one lab per week. (132A and 132B constitute 132). 132B. Specialized Electronics (2) Semiconductor fundamentals, transistors, microprocessors and selected electronic devices. Automotive Fundamentals (3) Operation, diagnosis and repair of selected automotive systems, as well as general auto shop orientation for beginners and non- automotive majors. 152. Automatic Transmission Overhaul (4) Operation, diagnosis, maintenance and overhaul of the automatic transmission. Two one-hour lectures and two labs per week. Prerequisite: Autosv 122 or 122B. 154. G.M. Automatic Transmission Overhaul (2) Diagnosis and overhaul procedures of General Motors automatic transmissions. One one-hour lecture and one lab per week. Prerequisite: Autosv 124. 155. Chrysler Automatic Transmission Overhaul (2) Diagnosis and overhaul procedures of Chrysler automatic transmissions. One one-hour lecture and one lab per week. Prerequisite: Autosv 125. 156. Toyota Automatic Transmission Overhaul (2) Diagnosis and overhaul procedures of Toyota automatic transmission. One one-hour lecture and one lab per week. Prerequisite: Autosv 126. 189. Cooperative Work Experience (1-9) Open to all first year students in Automotive Service. Provides academic credit for on-the-job experience. Grade and amount of credit will be determined by the department. 202. Fuel and Emission Control Systems (6) Theory, operation, diagnosis and repair of fuel and emission control systems.
