A total of sixteen quarter hours from the Language Group, which group includes English, Foreign Language, and Speech. (English 1, 2, and 3 may be counted in this group.) Candidates for the title of Associate of Arts must have a minimum of twenty-five quarter hours of one foreign language or its equivalent. (Three high school units of one and the same language satisfy foreign language requirements.) It is recommended that students pursuing a major in English, Foreign Language, Music, and Speech qualify for the title of Associate of Arts. Requirements for the Certificate of Completion are: Candidates for the Certificate of Completion in Business, Home-making, and Nursing must complete at least ninety quarter hours, exclusive of Physical Education activities and Physical Education 40. The work must include: 1. Orientation 1 2. Physical Education 40 and two selected activities. 3. The successful completion of the two-year terminal course as outlined in the catalogue. Candidates for the Certficate of Completion in the Trades must successfully pass the examinations as designated by the Trade Advisory Committee and complete the two-year terminal course as outlined in the catalogue. Candidates for a Certificate of Completion in General Education I must complete a two-year course as outlined by the Dean of Instruction. The Certificate of Completion is designed for students who desire to complete their formal education at the close of the second college year. Before a student can become a candidate for graduation, his scholastic record must show that he has satisfied the requirements for en trance, that he can fulfill all the requirements for graduation on the completion of the course for which he is registered, and that he has an average of not less than C, a ratio of at least 1.00, in all his college work. Before a student can become a candidate for graduation, he must have completed thirty quarter hours of residence work at Weber College. Any exceptions to these requirements are made by the President. All candidates for graduation are required to be present at the Commencement Exercises unless excused by the President. Training Record Card A Training Record Card is issued to the trade preparatory students when their course of training is completed or when they leave school WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 47 for placement on a job. This card indicates the employment levels which have been successfully completed and the units in which the student is trained. Certificate of Preparatory Training A Certificate of Preparatory Training is issued to trade students who complete a prescribed trade training program or who have satisfactorily completed certain job levels and who give evidence of ability to use such training. All students will be examined and passed upon by the trade instructor and the advisory committee. The Training Record Card and the Certificate of Preparatory Training are issued in recognition of training and accomplishment. They do not indicate graduation. Candidates for the title of Associate of Arts or the Associate of Science who desire training leading to specialization in Agriculture, Business, Dentistry, Educaton, Engineering, Forestry, Home Economics, Law, Medicine, and Social Work will find requirements for graduation listed as follows: Agriculture, page 51, 83; Business, page 55, 83; Dentistry, page 83; Education, page 58, 83; Engineering, page 59, 83; Forestry, page 63, 83; Home Economics, page 67, 83; Law, page 83; Medicine, page 83; and Social Work, page 83. All students contemplating work beyond the bachelor's degree should complete the foreign language requirements in their lower di vision work. The titles of Associate of Arts or the Associate of Science are designed for college preparatory students. Regulations Attendance: Registration and enrollment in the different classes of Weber College presupposes that recitations, lectures, and laboratory sessions will be attended regularly. Absence from class naturally de tracts from accomplishment and interest. It also leads to habits that are not tolerated by employers. Students who are irregular in their attendance may be dropped from the class involved and given an "E" in the subject. Changes in Study Program: A student may make a change in his study program if for justifiable reasons it seems advisable. Withdrawal from a course prior to the close of the sixth week may be made by applying to the registrar's office for a withdrawal slip and by having this withdrawal slip approved by the student's adviser and returned to the registrar's office. A student may not be permitted to add any new subject to his course after the second week of any quarter. If a student desires to withdraw from a subject after the sixth week, application must be made the registrar's office. The Registrar will then ascertain the standing of the student at the time of application for withdrawal is made, and, if passing, a grade of withdrawal will be given. Otherwise a grade of failure will be recorded. |
