/ / MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT The 1959 Utah Legislature authorized Weber College to expand its instructional program to include four years of college work in the fields of vocational and technical training and industrial technology, arts and sciences, business and education. The legislature further provided that the junior year of this work is to begin with the school year 1962-63 and the senior year in 1963-64. This means that the freshman class that entered during the school year 1960-61 will be the first junior class in 1962-63 and the first senior class in 1963-64, and therefore the first to receive bachelor's degrees. The 1961 Utah Legislature provided the necessary funds to make this expansion possible. The present broad lower division program will be continued as in the past. The detailed curriculum plans for upper division work will be determined and announced during the 1961-62 school year. As this catalog goes to press it is planned that upper division work will be offered in all phases of the areas authorized by the legislature. The 1961 Legislature created a Board of Trustees for Weber College to become the college's governing board on July 1, 1961 and to assume the control formerly exercised since 1933 by the State Board of Education. The new board consists of twelve members appointed by the governor plus the Secretary of State and the president of the Weber College Alumni Association.
