Show 96 Students who have completed 9 credit hours in these courses will have met the Life Science group requirements. If the student has had zoology, botany, physiology, or another biology course in senior high school, he should elect those courses in college which compensate for any deficiencies in his understanding and coverage of the life sciences. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Life Sciences 1. Principles of Biology. This general education course deals with those principles and contributions of the plant and animal sciences which show functions and interrelationships. Three lectures and one laboratory period a week. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Staff 2. Principles of Biology. This course follows Life Science 1, with special attention given to heredity, evolution, and conservation. Prerequisite: Life Science 1 or one of the following: Bacteriology 1, Botany 1 or 2, Zoology 1, 4, or 7. Four lectures and one laboratory period a week. Five quarter hours. (Credit will not be given for both Life Science 2 and Biology 8.) Autumn, Winter, Spring. Young 81. Biological Progress and Modern Civilization. This course presents the biological foundations of modern society by emphasizing those discoveries which have helped in its development. The attainment of man's freedom from disease and from other obstacles to human progress will be discussed. It is recommended only for those students who do not elect other general education courses. Hayes COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Bacteriology It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in Bacteriology complete Bacteriology 1 or 2; Chemistry 4, 5, 6; Mathematics 1, 3, 4; Physics 4, 5, and 6; Physiology 1; and Zoology 1 or 4. 1. Introductory Microbiology. A principles course which discusses life functions and microbial interrelationships and emphasizes microorganisms as biological forces contributing to personal health, family living, and vocational and professional training. Four lectures and one laboratory period a week. Five quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Hayes 8. General Bacteriology. Designed for students of Home Economics. Application of the principles of Bacteriology to food handling, preservation, and prevention of disease in the home. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Five quarter hours. Spring. Hayes 5. Elementary Public Health. Introduction to public health principles and practices. Designed to promote individual citizen responsibility for effective community public health programs. Three quarter hours. Spring. Hayes 10. School Sanitation and Child Health. Required of elementary and secondary teachers. Emphasizes the role of personal and environmental health in the processes of teaching and learning. Four quarter hours. Spring. Hayes MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY Medical Technology Weber College offers a Medical Technology program in the Department of Bacteriology and Public Health which enables students to meet the entrance requirements of the Registry of Medical Technologists of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Beginning with January 1, 19 62 the program will require three years of college training followed by one year in an approved hospital administered school of medical technology (twelve months training period). A total of one hundred and thirty five quarter hours credit selected from courses in bacteriology, anatomy, zoology, embryology, physiology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics will be required to enter a hospital conducted school for medical technologists. Two such schools are located adjacent to the Weber College campus, the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology and a similar one at St. Benedict's Hospital. The following curriculum is designed to meet the requirements for a medical technology program. Additional courses to complete the total of one hundred and thiry five hours training will be included in the Weber College catalog for 1962-63.
