Show 15 In signing the bill, Governor Clyde predicted a successful and significant future for the school, which would add the third year of college work in 1962 and the fourth year in 1963. Governor Clyde said he was certain of Weber's future and that his certainty of its success and significance was why he was happy to have supported four-year status for the school and to have proposed the board of trustees. Dr. William P. Miller, president of Weber College, said: "I compliment Governor Clyde on taking the lead in giving the college its deserved status and pledge full support to our board of trustees." It was on May 24, 1961, that Governor Clyde named twelve individuals to comprise the first Weber College Board of Trustees. The board members included eleven men and one woman, representing those areas from which Weber drew most of its studentbody: Ogden, Brigham City, Layton, Bountiful, and Salt Lake City. Their qualifications are well stated in an editorial appearing in the Ogden Standard Examiner just prior to the Board's first meeting: To their important task, the trustees bring a a wide range of knowledge and experience. To examine their qualifications and their backgrounds is to be assured that the school is in competent hands. . . . The governor has chosen successful business executives and civic leaders who have already demonstrated their abilities to cope with difficult situations and to resolve difficult issues. |
