Show 39 approve the bill as President Miller and his assistants had prepared it, with the suggested clarifications. On December 5, 1961, Ira A. Huggins, Chairman of the Weber College Advisory Committee, and William P. Miller, President of Weber College, sent the following letter to all Advisory Committee members: On January 4, 1952, President H. A. Dixon recommended to the State Board of Education that an Advisory Committee be appointed to confer with the faculty and staff of Weber College and also the State Board of Education concerning the development of the college. The State Board of Education approved this recommendation and authorized President Dixon to make the appointments. Appointments were made by him at that time, and during the past ten years this committee has functioned in a very worthwhile and positive way to assist the development of Weber College. These have been years filled with many problems as we moved to a new campus and are now in the process of expanding into a four-year institution. The main reasons why this committee was organized were to secure the consideration and counsel of local members of the community concerning the progress of Weber College and to help present and interpret the plans of the institution to the State Board of Education and to the Legislature. It was felt that this committee was necessary because the composition of the State Board of Education provided for only one representative from the Ogden area on the Board, and the college had no other administrative board. The 1961 Legislature enacted Senate Bill 145, which created a separate Board of Trustees for Weber College. This new Board took office on July 1, 1961, and has been the governing board of our institution since that time. Inasmuch as the majority of the members of this |
