Show 41 THE ANNUAL HIKE TO MOUNT OGDEN Mount Ogden peak is the highest peak in the immediate range of the Wasatch. Because of its height and location, from its summit on a clear day a person can look into the neighboring states, with Salt Lake City and Logan being entirely visible. To climb to the peak is one of the most delightful mountain trips one can experience. Many persons in the Ogden area made the climb to the 9,575 feet peak during the summer of 1922. There was a feeling among the students of Weber College and the citizens in the community that Mount Ogden peak should be crowned with a flagpole from which could furl our great American flag. The erection of a flagpole would be a signal honor for the Weber students of 1922-23 and will be a gift to future generations. In the minutes of the Weber Student Board of Control held September 19, 1922, it is recorded that a motion was approved by the Board for the students of the school to have a hike on October 4, in which the studentbody and faculty would make the trip to Mount Ogden where a flagpole would be erected and an appropriate program held. Harvey L. Taylor of the faculty was named in charge of the pioneer hike. An expression of genuine interest in the school was shown when the Weber Board of Trustees voted to join the students in this hike. Elder David O. McKay was president of the Board at that time. |
