60 When the College owned the Hall, a student and his wife lived in the apartment above the garage. Rent was given to the couple, in exchange for the young man's services to keep the grounds in order, and also to assist the housemother when needed. The College was fortunate, indeed, in attaining this magnificent home. Although the house was very applicable to a social center and a dormitory, it was found necessary to make some changes in the building so that it could serve to the best advantage of the students. It was during the summer of 1948 that the house was remodeled and re-decorated. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Sessions of Provo were appointed to plan and manage the remodeling, refurnishing and decoration of the Bertha Eccles Hall. The beautiful furnishings which were in the home when the Eccles's family lived there had been possessed previously by members of the family. In the remodeling, partitions were removed in the main hallway in order for the rooms to become more spacious and more adaptable to social activities. The living and drawing rooms on the main floor were entirely re-decorated and many drastic changes were made in the colors and in the re-finishing of the woodwork. In addition to the main floor being remodeled, there were some changes in the second and third floors. Two of the bedrooms on the second floor were made into a large study hall. Many times one would
