Show WEBER WINS SECOND GOLDEN SPIKE TOURNEY Weber took the top spot for the second year in the Golden Spike Basketball Invitational Tournament sponsored by the Ogden Lions Club. Justus Thigpen, Cat's flashy guard, was voted "most valuable player" of the 2 night feature. Other teams entered in the holiday event were Pepperdine, Indiana State and South West Louisiana. Thigpen and Indiana players frug for the ball. Thigpen gets "most valuable player" trophy. Bryant, Archibald, and Sparks go high to retrive ball MOTTA AND JOHNSON DIRECT CATS Coaches Dick Motta and Phil Johnson led the Weber Wildcats to a 21-6 season and the Big Sky Conference crown. This is the 10th season Motta's teams have won more than 20 games out of 12 years he has coached. Weber has placed 1st in 3 out of 5 years of Big Sky play. The Cats had one 2nd and one 3rd BSC position in the past 5 years. Dick Motta Phil Johnson |
