To quote Jerry Walker ‘“‘This year’s cross country team is one of the best Ben Lomond has had.” This year the cross country team is fortunate to have some Brynor, Steve Rubino, Bruce Gilbert, Larry McDonald; Stan Schaub, Maurice Bowens, Richard Cottrell, and Doug Cottle. The minute Ben Lomond lets up, some team will be waiting to beat us. There are many teams in Region I who would like to do _ just that. There such thing as an “easy game.” There are many dangers in “taking it easy.” Ben Lomond did that two years ago. We let up in one game and were never able to regain our momentum. In fact, we lost our last three games of the season, including the State quarter-finals play-off game against Davis High. The team’s “come-from-behind”’ victory over the Spanish Fork Dons shows that Ben Lomond’s team has the ability to score when it is necessary. Which is very comforting to know if you happen to be a Ben Lomond an. All of you Ben Lomond fans had better go out and support the Scotties by attending as many of Ben Lomond’s games as possible, especially the games which aren’t played at home. I predict that the Ben Lomond Scotties will come out as the winners of the Region I trophy. Now let’s go to the games and make that prediction into a reality. lain. is no In Several Years PETERSON For example: Last year (as in most years) Ogden was the team to beat. The only team to come close to completing that task happened to finish last in the Region I race. That team was Roy. Mighty Scot's Look Mightier Coach Kap says, “This year’s team has the greatest potential in the history of our school.” STEVE According to the pre-season ‘forecasts, made by two Northern Utah newspapers and shared by many Ben Lomond High supporters, this is Ben Lomond’s year in football. But let’s not kid ourselves. The news= papers can only predict the rei sults, they do not play our opponents. In order to beat our Region I rivals it will take a lot of effort by a hard-working team of Scotties.. The rest of the teams in the region will not give up on the idea of running over, around, and through Ben Lomond’s defenses. Rick Younger and Gene Woods seem to be a great combination as they started the game with Younger throwing another 50yard pass to Woods. This put the Scotties in good field position for their first touchdown. Art Suekawa later showed his superior running ability as he ran a 65-yard punt return. The defense is most likely the best the Scots have experienced. They only gave up three first downs in the whole game. Ron Smith put on a great show as he made another five field goals for the Scots.
