New Weber track coach Ed Garvanian is initiating this new track and field spectacle in the northern Utah area to provide athletes and fans with a major track event. Competition will be staged in three divisions: the university and college division; the junior college division, and the high school division. As a special attraction, there will be two relay events for junior high schools and an invitational hurdle race for former outstanding collegiate track stars. At 12:30 p.m., the college and junior college field events get under way, as well as the first running events, which include the 120-yard high school high hurdles, followed by the junior college ‘and collegiate hurdles. TOP ENTRIES Expected to participate in the collegiate competition are the University of Wyoming, Colorado State | University, Idaho State University and host Weber State. High schools that have indicated that they will compete are Ogden, Ben Lomond, Weber, Bonneville, Roy, Bountiful, Davis, |Viewmont, South and Intermountain. Junior college entries have come from Boise, Dixie, Ricks, Eastern Utah and Western Wyo‘ming. FORMER OLYMPIAN Leading participant is former Olympian Blaine Lingren, a Utah graduate, who has the best time of 13.5 over the high sticks. Former Idaho State ace Ben Miller, who has a 13.7 clocking, will be in the race, as will former BYU _ hurdler Mike Douglas, who has been timed under 14 seconds. An Idaho State redshirt, Billy Walker, who transferred from Texas Scuthern will run, and he has a top time of 14. 0. High school athletes will par- ticipate in six field events and six relays, and while the collegiate junior college competitors will be in seven field events and six relays. The meet gets under way at 10 a.m. in the morning with the high school vole vault, high jump, javelin, long jump, shotput and discus events. ; HONORARY REFEREE Retiring Weber State athleti¢ director, Dr. Reed K.
