Show SEL FRIDAY, DECEMBER So 15, 1967 THE PAGE 8 HIGHLANDER Open House Great Success A Look Around the School Flash: There is a black widow spider nesting by one of the water fountains here, but I won’t tell which fountain. Wednesday, December 5, a bulletin was placed in the teachers’ boxes informing them of the National Drivers’ Test on television, Tuesday night, December 5. The Christmas Open House was a smashing success. I smashed two displays myself. It has been announced that there will be a new library here at school in three years. All I have to ask is, three years from when? (I hope it’s not three years from the time we get our swimming pool). Finally: Our principal has a strange disease, one of the symptoms is a sprig of holly growing from his adam’s apple. IT'S DEBATABLE Debaters Top Image-Makers? The material is given below for your information and thought, but it is debatable. Be it resolved that the debaters of Ben Lomond are the most effective tool in promoting the image, tradition, and ideals of the Scots to the entire Intermountain area. Debaters of the above resolution are as follows: (sophomores) John Graham, (juniors) Charlie Casperson, Pat Wahlquist, Kathy Taylor, Pat Hassel, Susan Wade, Sharla Jones, Kevin Folkman, (seniors) Greg Sanders, Irene Teelford, Kim orgason, Alma Fowler, Harry Woodward, This year’s open house, sponsored by the Girls’ Association, was a great success. There were displays of foods, clothing and decorations. The boys’ food class showed delicious - looking cakes, candy and cookies. More than one person left with his mouth watering. When asked what they thought of the boys’ cooking display. many people made comments such as “If I ever open a restaurant. I’ll know where to look for chefs.” The girls’ cooking class was just as big a hit. They had tantalizing food, all arranged very neatly. In the clothing department there were so many cute things to show that everyone lingered on. One woman commented, ‘“‘I wish they would sell this kind of things downtown.” Susan Williams and Linda Schwin test the roof of a house The committee members were: made by the Foods Department for the Open House. chairman, Nancy Swanson; co|chairman, Susan Purdy; invitations, Karen Beecher, and De- the Plaid Pipers. Diane Braegger won the oration competition and Doug Threlkeld won the impromptu. Harry Woodward won third in the impromptu. Greg Sanders, Alma Fowler, and Larry Peterson received superior ratings in legislative form, while Marvin Johns was rated excellent. Kathi Alford received second in oratory. Record Review Their Stanic Majesties Request - Rolling Stones. The latest Stones LP has all new songs written entirely by themselves. Bill Wyman (Stones bass player) does his first solo on this album. With definite characteristics of Sgt Pepper throughout the album (such as the double fold-out album cover, the wierd- ly colored record jacket and the pictures of the Beatles on the front) some peole may think it something short of a copy. But after listening to it closely it is evident that the Stones have come up with a new approach to music. Disraeli Gears-Cream The 2nd LP by the English group is just as good (if not a little better) than their last one. This being true it makes for excellent listening too. “Strange Brew” starts off the album and goes all the way through to “Tales of Brave Ulysses.” A LP something just short of fantastic. Magical Mystery Tour - Beatles With five new cuts on the album plus their last three singles the Beatles have another number 1 LP. The album comes in a special package which includesa 24 page full-color pic- ture book from their Christmas film entitled (what else?) “Magical Mystery Tour.” Two of the songs of special interest are “Blue Jay Way,” and “Flying.” Vote of Thanks Dennis Moss, Robert Needleman, and Dave Carlsen are working as this year’s stage crew. They are the people behind the sound and _ lighting effects at our assemblys and other extra activities. Now that the production “Carousel” is close at hand, these boys have a big task ahead of them. Along with them, several others will be used to help with the musical. We would like to thank these boys for the great job they have done so far this year. Art Field Trip On November 21, the art classes made a field trip to Salt Lake City to see the Intermountain Craft Exhibition. The exibition, held at the Salt Lake Art Center, was sponsored by the Utah DesignerCraftsmen, and the Utah State Institute of Fine Arts. The show was composed of 50 intermountain artists. Prizes were taken by 12 artists. Mr. Taylor received an Honorable Mention. NEED caught without MONTI ... If you’re slipp’n... get a firm grip with MONTI.
