Show Volume 1, Issue 7 Page 6 New Zion Members of the Month “Bro. Frank and Sis. Desseria Satterwhite” teachers and directors and conducted Baptist Training Union (BTU) teaching the youth on how to serve in various ministries and eS Sunday School regularly many years. Bro. & Sis. Satterwhite were high school classmates in Shreveport, LA. After Bro. Satterwhite returned from the Korean War, he relocated to Ogden to establish a career in radio frequency at Hill AFB in the early 1940s. Sis. Satterwhite later stopped in Ogden ‘ 3 heading for Reno, NV. As the Lord would have it, they feaare -reacquainted. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in March of this year. They have been blessed with four beautiful daughters; Alice, Linda, Sylvia and Zetta. They are the proud cancels of 10 and two great-grand children. Bro. and Sis. members, Satterwhite marched from the along with old location several other of Wall New Avenue Zion Baptist Church to the present site in 1954. They continue to be active members by working in God’s vineyard for over 60 plus years serving in various ministries. Bro. Satterwhite has been a member of the Trustee Board, Finance Committee and the Laymen ministry. He continues to function as the Secretary of the Laymen’s, a position of which he has held for many years. In addition, he is an active member of the Male Chorus. Working faithfully by his side, introduce the NBC “Pete the Pig” donations to the youth at New which assisted the Satterwhites labored ey kids in Liberia. Additionally, as Vacation Bible School (VBS) LEELLALES of tlre APC s& Bro. and Sis. Satterwhite have also been active in the Ogden community for 60 years with Bro. Satterwhite serving as Presidentof the Ogden NAACP for several years in the 1950s. He, along with other members of New Zion, helped to build ping pong game tables for Ogden City Recreation area youth and coached little league baseball. Sis. ‘Satterwhite worked with the young girls in Girl Scouts. They are often asked, “What is the secret of staying married for 61 years?” Their response, “with work, children, activities, church, and just living; the years seem to go by fast before you know it! You sometimes have to laugh at yourself and always laugh together and keep God first!” Their favorite song is “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and scriptures are “Psalm 23” and “Proverbs 3:5-6.” They both count it a blessing from God to have each other, their family and church in their lives. RARARNRARNR Sis. Satterwhite served graciously as a member of the Usher Board, and has lifted her voice in praise as a member of the Usher Board Harmonettes and the Women’s Choir for numerous years. She was a member of the Young Matrons which is under the Mission Ministry. During that time, she became instrumental in starting the Youth Department as an assistant counselor under the direction of Sis. Platt. In this auxiliary, she taught the youth how to conduct meetings with youth officers, the importance of tithing, accompanied the youth's trip to Colorado to fellowship with other youth departments, and conducted various scripture based plays and events. Sis. Satterwhite worked diligently to establish association with other tri-state area church’s youth departments under the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (NBC). She helped to Zion, Bro. Satterwhite taught adult and young adult Sunday School classes for numerous years. : the Bro. Bro. Bro. Bro. Bro.
