Show Volume Page 4 1, Issue 11 In November 2008, the New Zion Baptist Church Christian Leadership School presented a Certificate of Progress Program course titled “Christian Stewardship.” The objective of this class was to clarify a student's understanding and expand their knowledge regarding Christian Stewardship. Here are some excerpts from study. Christian Education What is Christian Stewardship? Steward - one who administers something that belongs to another. An agent, a custodian, a manager, a trustee, a representative, a person entrusted with the management of estates or affairs not his own. Ship-any vessel of considerable size navigation deep water; one powered by an engine and larger than a boat; the quality, condition, or state of being; all individual of a specified class, collectively. Stewardship - a person morally responsible for the careful use of money, time, talents, or other resources, especially with respect to the principles or needs of a community or group. Christian Steward - an agent, a custodian, a manager, a trustee, a representative of Christ and the Kingdom of God; one entrusted with the management of estates or affairs belonging to God. Christian Stewardship - all of those who profess to be children of God in the same vessel, for the same common goal, knowing that all belongs to God, to use His resources for the up building of His kingdom, and recognizing that, without Him we are nothing. Lastly, Stewardship of Possessions refers to how one should truly use their treasures. These items have yielded value that is deposited in people, friendships, love, hope, faith, God, church, and the Bible. What Does Christian Stewardship Mean? ... putting the Kingdom of God first (Matthew 6:33); ... putting more religion into business and more business into religion. It means partnership with God in business. ... the dedication of the whole of life and whole of God's resources to the betterment of the whole world; ... that all we have belongs to God and should be used for Him and His kingdom. ... all life is a stewardship; therefore, ... the practice of systematic and proportionate giving of time, ability, and material possessions based on the conviction that these are trusts from God for His service, His benefit of all mankind, His work in that leads to acknowledging Christ's redeeming love. In closing, the prayer from the Christian Education Ministry is for all of God's people to acknowledge the fact that “Stewardship Is a life principle.” This 40-hour lesson concludes the 2008 schedule. Yet, our next course is “History of Christianity’ held January 6 & 8-10, 2009, with each class session as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (3-hours) and Saturday (1-hour). Christian Stewardship: How is it Created? By the work of our salvation, a Christian is Christ-like, who is our ultimate example of Christian Stewardship. One obstacle to creating Christian Stewardship regards the term being equated to money. This is a major shortfall to the characterization Christian Stewardship because it is only a fraction of the responsibility. The life of a Christian involves more than money. If it one is to acknowledge fully the Lordship of Jesus Christ in their life, in turn, being a true believer, then one must enter the pathway of which requires living responsibly. This is a continual building process of what shall be illustrated for living responsibly. Before one can begin to live up to the responsibilities of being a Christian Steward, one must do a self-examination of their beliefs and principles. In most cases, we will find that our life style is not nor has not been lived according to precepts written in the Holy Bible. We will discover that our life has overlooked some areas of responsibilities such as the Stewardship of Influence, which is an emphasis on love and service. Another ignored area in our life is Stewardship of Time. Fortunately or unfortunately, time cannot be hoarded or saved, like the way we handle money, so that it may be used later.
