Standard-Examiner, Sunday, Octobre 3, 1965 iD Weber State College Homecoming Scheduled for Oct. 11 Through 16 “The Wonderful World of Weber”’ is the theme of Weber State College homecoming Oct. 11 through 16. And the more than 5,000 collegians at the hilltop campus plan to carry out the theme with a downtown parade, a concert by a world famous band, football game, talent show, ban- quets, reunions, and other activities. This is the third homecoming for Weber State as a four-year college, and an aim of the traditional observance is to involve the community in all of the programs. HOMECOMING Saturday, Oct. 16 is the big day. It opens with the Homecoming Parade of floats, antique cars, marching units, and bands from several areas, headed..by. Weber. State’s Marching Band of 70. The procession begins at 10 a.m. at 2Ist and Washington, and will be the float bearing the | homecoming royalty, according to Robert Hunter and J. Farrell Shepherd, in charge of student oriented programs. The football classic Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wildcat Stadium has Weber meeting Whitworth of Spokane, Wash., and students are working to have their expanded 10,000-seat stadium playing to a capacity turnout for what should be a good matinee grid encounter. AIR FORCE BAND The appearance of the United States Air Force Band could be regarded as a celebration “‘bonus.” This world-renowned organization will be present-. ed in the 1800-seat auditorium of the Fine Arts Center at 8:15 p.m., and the concert is free to the public. The Singing Sergeants, the band’s equally famous: chorus, will also be heard. The Utah Symphony Orchestra opens its new season as a homecoming feature in the Fine Arts auditorium Oct. 11 at 8:30 p.m. The 8member orchestra will perform under the baton of Maurice Abravanel. The year’s first. Audubon- Wildlife film, ‘Wild Europe,” with its producer, Roger Troy Peterson present to narrate the picture will be seen in the auditorium Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. “FELINE FOLLIES” Alumni, faculty and students will unite their talents for the ‘“‘Feline Follies” show Oct. 14 at 8:15 p.m. in the auditorium, a production that traditionally draws. capacity houses. Major attraction for former Weber students is the annual Alumni banquet Oct. 15, at 7:45 p.m., Union Building. Alumni president Dr. Don A. Buswell anticipates a turnout of around 400. Main speaker is Dr. Quinn G. McKay of the WSC faculty. Earlier, starting at 6:30 p.m., the classes of 41, °46, ’51, and ’56 meet in the Union for their reunions. Pre-celebration features include the coronation ball when the homecoming queen will be crowned, scheduled for Oct. 8 in the WSC | Union Building. | |
