Show CHOIR HISTORY The Ogden High School a cappella Choir has had a long and exciting history dating back to 1930 when Mr. Glenn L. Hanson first began his duties at the school. He taught band, orchestra and chorus for many years and then specialised in choral music until 1952 when he became an instructor at Weber College. Mr. O. Dale Blackburn continued the excellent choral tradition after Mr. Hanson’s departure. Under Mr. Blackburn's direction the a cappella Choir performed with the Utah Western Symphony Division that represented Convention Mr. Wooden tradition and was has the state of Utah at the 1963 in Bakersfield endeavored established. Education- To develop competent student performers and students of musical art and the Humanities, and to search for the truth and beauty that has been expressed by the great composers of the past and present. Service- To promote the dignity and reputation of Ogden High School with traditional concert appearances, service, social, religious, and invitational musical performance. Recreational-To provide all members with an opportunity for worthy use of leisure time, emotional outlet and social contact. choral four traditional concerts each year and have sung for audiences at Brigham Young University, University of Utah and Utah State University. They have performed for the Utah Music Educator's on two different occasions in the past two years and in the Fall of 1966 performed for the Utah Education Associations Annual Convention in Salt Lake City. In January the members of this organization were selected to perform, with four other Utah High School Choirs, Vivaldi's ‘‘Gloria,’’ and Igor Stravinsky's ‘Symphony of Psalms,’’ With the Utah Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Maurice Abravenel. In addition to their selection to appear at the Western Division Convention in Las Vegas, the ‘‘Choir’’ will sing for audiences in Cedar City, Utah, St. George, Utah, and two church congregations in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 19. In May they will perform special music for the student body of Brigham Young University in a Devotional Assembly. The choral organization is very active and forms a cosmopolitan personnel. Singing voice and musical background are very important, but along with these qualities go school attitude, personality, dependability and willingness to serve.
