Show Band Plays At Capitol The Weber State College band has done it again. During Autumn Quarter they performed at the Wildcat football games, rallying behind the team at every conflict. Now they have carried forth the Weber State tradition to the Utah State capitol building where they recently presented a concert in honor of Utah Statehood Day. Future plans for this enthusiastic group include trips with the basketball team to Idaho and Montana during the coming months. They also plan to wear their band blazers each Thursday, as well as on tours and other activities represented by the band. COLLEGE BAND TO PERFORM “/« IN SALT LAKE The Weber State College Concert Band will play several patriotic numbers during a program in the State Capitol commemorating the 70th anniversary of statehood next Thursday. The 65-member band, directed by Donald D. Threlkeld, will present its program in the Capitol rotunda, starting at 2 p.m. During the football season the band’s identity is the WSC Marching Band. Its members put on halftime shows at all of Weber’s home conference games this year in addition to a game at Idaho State University. Invitation for the Weber State Band to appear on the birthday program was received from the Utah Historical Society. Band Council Members Ron Adamson, percussion representative; Ned Jensen, president; Linda Birthleson, secretary; Charles Rhoades, vice president; Doyleen Workman, reporter; Doug Cox, senior representative; Lou Johnson, woodwinds; and Dee Fuhriman, brass representatives, set plans for their February tour of the Intermountain states. The advisor is Mr. Don Threldkeld. “Gs-bb Band Council Forms On WSC Campus The Weber State Wildcat Band Council has formed a new format entirely different from previous band councils. Under the new ruling, the council will meet once a week to discuss the needs and activities of the band. If a rule is passed by this council, it is then brought before the band for further discussion and reviewing. Any rules passed by the band will be effective immediately. Officers heading this council are Ned Jensen, president; Charles Rhoades, vice president; Linda Birthleson, secretary; and Doug Cox, senior representative. Each section is represented by Dee Fuhriman, brass; Lou Johnson, woodwinds; Ron Adamson, percussion. Band council reporter is Doyleen Workman; the advisor is Don Threldkeld. A tour covering Wyoming, Idaho, and Northern Utah is scheduled for February 7, 8, and 9. |
