Show 98 Music Program: Music Major Bachelor Degree Liberal Arts Emphasis General Requirements: Specific course requirements of the college (see index]. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). A minor is required. Music majors must have a C (2.0) or better in major courses. An overall G.P.A. of 2.00 or C is required. 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). All music majors must complete performance level requirements before graduation. All liberal arts majors are required to perform in an approved ensemble every quarter in consultation with an adviser. Specific Requirements: Music major Liberal Arts Emphasis: Minimum of 74 credit hours. Music courses required: Music 110 (2), 111 (2), 112 (3), 113 (2), 114 (2), 115 (2), 219 (2), 260 (2), 261 (2), 262 (2), 263 (2), 264 (2), 265 (2), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 305 (2), 314 (3), 315 (3); 316 (3) or 338 (3), and 317 (2) or 318 (2). A minimum of 12 credit hours of private study and 12 credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. Piano Emphasis: Minimum of 76 credit hours. Music courses required: Music 110 (2), 111 (2), 112 (3), 113 12), 114 (2), 115(2), 260 (3), 261 (3), 262 (3), 263 (2), 264 (2), 265 (2), 270 (3), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 305 (2), 310 (3), 311 (3), 312 (3), 313 (3), 317 (2) or 318 (2). Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psych 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Music Education Teaching majors. A minor is not required. Music Education Teaching majors must have a 2.50 or better in major courses. Music Education Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.50 GPA. 197 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 197 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). Students obtaining a Music Education Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification program (see Teacher Education Program). All Music majors must complete performance level requirements before graduation. Program: Elementary Education Majors-Music Emphasis General Requirements: Elementary Education major requirements (See Elementary Education). Candidate for the forty-hour concentration must complete sophomore performance level requirements before graduation. (Requirement sheets available through Music Department office.) Specific Requirements: Forty-hour Emphasis Music courses required (27 credit hours): Music 110 (2), 111 (2), 112 (2), 113 (2), 114 (2), 115 (2), 216 (1), 219 (2), 301 (3), 302 (3); 314 (3) or 315 (3), 320 (3). Six credit hours of private study and four credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. Twenty-hour Emphasis Music courses required (17 credit hours): Music 169 (3), 216 (1), 219 (2), 301 (3); 314 (3) or 315 (3); 320 (3), two credit hours of major ensemble in consultation with an adviser. Three credit hours of private study in piano or Music 213 (1), 214 (1) and 215 (1) in consultation with an adviser. Program: Music Departmental Honors General Requirements: Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses. Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3. Fulfill requirements for one of the Music majors: Teaching Major in Music Education with Instrumental-Choral Emphasis, Teaching Major in Music Education with Choral Emphasis, Departmental Major in Music, Teaching Major in Music Education with Instrumental Emphsis, and Departmental Major in Music with Emphasis in Piano. Specific Requirements: In fulfilling requirements for one of the Music majors, take at least twenty credit hours among these requirements in courses taken for Music Honors credit. Complete a Music Honors Senior Project in Music 499 in addition to the Senior Recital. A student may receive Music Honors credit in any upper division music course with the exception of the following: Music 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 350, 353, 354, 355, 357, 360, 361. Permission from the department chairperson should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See Composite and Interdepartmental Programs.) Program: Music Minor General Requirements: A grade of C (2.0) or better in all minor courses. Specific Requirements: Music courses required (29 credit hours): Music 110 (3), 111 (2 , 112 (2), 113 (2), 114 (2), 115 (2), 219 (2), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 314 (3) or 315 (3). Students must be in a major ensemble for three quarters and must pass the sophomore proficiency level on major instruments. These requirements may be modified to meet individual needs. Program: Music Education Minor General Requirements: A grade of C (2.0) or better in all courses for the music minor. All music minors must complete sophomore performance level requirements before graduation. (Requirement sheets are available at the Music Department office.) Specific Requirements: Minimum of 33 credit hours. Music courses required (total of 33 credit hours): Music 110 (2), 111 (2), 112 (2), 113 (2), 114 (2), 115 (2), 216 (1), 219 (2), 320 (3), 425 (4) or 426 (4). A choice of one of the following: Music 250 (2), 251 (2), 252 (2), 253 (2) (Strongly recommend Music 250). Great Epochs 302 (3) or 303 (3). Electives: Music 339 (3), 428 (3)-as recommended by the adviser. Three credit hours of private study and three credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. Must pass Piano Proficiency Exam or pass Music 213(1),214 (1), 215 (1) with at least a 2.0 grade. Share a one hour Senior Recital on major instrument approved by the music faculty. Have at least one class in music included in your student teaching experience. These requirements are recommended. Music Department advisers may modify to meet individual needs. |
