Show Miscellaneous Services and Activities Bookstore The College Bookstore, located on the ground floor of the Union Building is the source for all college text books and supplies. The Bookstore is open from 7:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. During the first week of the quarter the Bookstore is open from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Bookstore is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. during the summer. During the first two weeks of summer quarter it will be open on Monday and Tuesday evening until 7 p.m. Campus Physical Facilities The college provides extensive physical facilities, both buildings and grounds, for the student's classwork and activities. The Physical Plant Department provides a clean, comfortable campus environment where instruction, research, and public service activities may take place without significant interruption. Physical Plant offices and shops are located in the Maintenance Building. The Office of Architectural Services provides facilities master planning and other architectural service for the campus. This office is located in Annex 7 on the corner of 4100 South and Harrison. Cultural Arts Program The Office of Cultural Affairs annually presents a liberal cultural arts program. Through this program ennobling thoughts and great ideas are expressed and communicated by means of the media of sight and sound. The various groups of the campus and community may receive cultural arts experience through the fine and performing arts. These arts enrich the campus-community public. The cultural arts calendar includes diversified activities, events and programs relating to the presentation, performance, execution and exhibition of major art forms and productions which have substantial artistic and cultural significance. Through these numerous offerings the College has brought to the campus-community many internationally and nationally known celebrities in the areas of the humanities, arts, sciences, and public affairs. These cultural arts bookings are in addition to the College's own numerous and excellent musical and theatrical productions and art exhibits. It is in this spirit and in these modes of cultural contagions the College serves as a well-established, college-community-cultural-academic-artistic-dynamic enterprise. Auxiliary Services Campus Police and Traffic-Established as a protective agency and entrusted with proper enforcement of State and local laws, campus rules and regulations, to include campus traffic and parking. All students, faculty, and staff members must display a parking permit when parking on campus. The Campus Police and Traffic Office is located at 4040 Tyler Avenue. The campus telephone extension is 6460. Printing Services-Printing Services operates a full-service printing facility in Building 2 to provide for the complete printing needs of students, faculty and staff. It also operates a full-service Copy Center in the main lobby of the Stewart Library. Telephone extensions are 6107 for the main office and 6738 for the Copy Center. Mail Service-Mail Service is located south of the Bookstore on the ground floor of the Union Building. The Mail Service is not a branch of the U.S. Postal system; however limited postal services are available. The campus telephone extension is 6375. Safety and Fire Prevention-Safety and Fire Prevention is located on the ground floor of the Campus Security Building at 4040 Tyler Avenue. Accident reporting, personal safety requirements and fire systems are managed by this agency. The campus telephone extension is 6462. Dee Events Center The 11,600 seat Dee Events Center is located on the south end of the campus, and is dedicated as a multipurpose facility for use by students, faculty, staff and local community to the fullest extent possible, which is consistant with the instructional and public service missions of the College. The Dee Events Center includes a campus central ticket office for all events. The ticket office is also on the Datatix computer ticket system which allows the sale of tickets for all events on that system including events at the U. of U. Special Events Center, the Salt Palace, Symphony Hall and the Capitol Theatre. The campus telephone extension is 6666. Intercollegiate Athletics Weber State College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Big Sky Athletic Conference (men) and the Mountain West Athletic Conference (women), and offers a full program in Intercollegiate Athletics. The members of the Big Sky Athletic Conference are Boise State University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, University of Montana, Montana 255 Miscellaneous Services & Activities State University, University of Nevada, Reno, Northern Arizona University and Weber State College. The Mountain West Athletic Conference members are Boise State University, Eastern Washington University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, University of Montana, Montana State University, Portland State University, and Weber State College. The program is under the direction of Gary Crompton as Athletic Director with Richard Ordyna as Assistant Athletic Director. Athletic publicity is under the direction of Brad Larsen with Nan Holyoak as Assistant Sports Information Director. Tom Abdenour serves as Athletic Trainer with Nancy Weir as Assistant Athletic Trainer; and Ron Flygare serves as Equipment Manager with Earl Bullock as an assistant. Understanding how students think, learn, and grow, is the cornerstone of effective instruction. Instructional Development staff help faculty use information about students to make the best possible use of traditional teaching techniques (lectures, group work, writing assignments, exams). Faculty are encouraged to use less traditional techniques and more contemporary educational technology (including computers) to enhance learning. Services include: - production of quality media support materials, including photographic slides, overhead transparencies, audio cassettes and 3/4" video programs - administering a Project Fund which provides resources to faculty whose instructional improvement project proposals are approved by a faculty committee, - sponsoring conferences, workshops, seminars, and symposia on topics related to instructional quality, - providing training, student assessment, and consultation services on request for departments, schools, individual faculty, and ad hoc faculty groups involved in special projects, - obtaining and circulating resource materials on student learning and development in college, educational uses of computers and other media, teaching methodology and evaluation of instruction, and current issues in higher education. Office of Sponsored Projects The Office of Sponsored Projects provides support to members of the faculty in locating sources of funds for sponsored projects, proposal typing, proposal editing, proposal copying, proposal processing, proposal budget reviews, follow-up contracts with sponsoring agencies, and administrative help in managing project awards. Additionally, predoctoral and post-doctoral fellowship information is provided. Specifically, a library of "sources of funds" resources and periodicals is available for the use of faculty and staff in the Office of Sponsored Projects. Guidance is provided in the use of the resource materials, and assistance is available to make contacts with the potential sponsors for members of the faculty. Workshops are provided for members of the faculty and staff on proposal writing. Proposal editing and proposal processing are important aspects of the office function. Periodic contacts are made both in person and by telephone with potential sponsors of the sponsored projects. The Office of Sponsored Projects maintains a current status of funding and project development information. Pamphlets and regulations of many potential sponsors are on file and available for Weber State College faculty and staff members. The Office provides cognizant administrative assistance to members of the faculty for project awards made to the College on their behalf. Project awards are activated by the Office of Sponsored Projects and provides liaison assistance between the College and the awarding agency is provided. College Relations The Office of College Relations combines a variety of public relations functions including campus/community relations, information services, and fund raising from the private sector. Alumni Relations and Special Services-The Office of Alumni Relations provides a variety of programs and events designed to maintain contact with all former students of the college. Alumni records, travel tours and alumni giving are among the programs sponsored. Special events including receptions, open |
