Simkins Location: Wattis Building, Room 201 Telephone: 626-6063 The programs of the School of Business and Economics prepare individuals for careers in accounting, management, marketing, finance, economics, and computer information systems. Such preparation involves the analysis and cultivation of decision making skills, leadership methods and styles, research concepts and techniques, and an informed awareness of our American economic system. Requirements for Business and Economics Majors Baccalaureate Degree Requirements Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Business and Economics must satisfy the following requirements: College Requirements: Specific course requirements of the college (see index). Econ SS274 (5) or 430 (4) is recommended to satisfy the State Senate Bill requirement. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). School of Business and Economics Requirements: Advanced Standing Requirement (31 credit hours) must be achieved for entry into all upper division courses. Math 107 (5) Comis PD101 (4) Econ SS101 (5), 102 (3), 160 (3), 260 (3) Acct 201 (4), 202 (4) Business Core Requirements (minimum of 41 credit hours): Acct 2-30 (3) Busadm 220 (4), 478 (4) Econ 261 (4), 301 or 302 or 303 (4) Fin 320 (4) Mgmt 301 (4), 320 (4), 364 (3) Mktg 301 (4) An international business course. The student may select from Acct 672 (4), Econ 311 (3), Mgmt 420 (3), or Mktg 360 (3). Major Requirements: These requirements are outlined in the Departmental sections of the catalog. Graduation Requirements - 1. All students seeking a bachelor degree in any major offered by the School of Business and Economics must achieve at least a 2.50 GPA in the Business Core and a 2.50 GPA in the Major Requirements. 2. Business Core courses cannot be used to fill Major Requirements. 3. Credit earned more than 10 years earlier than the proposed date of graduation will not be accepted toward School or major requirements unless validated through a challenge examination or department chairperson approval. 4. Any deviations from the printed School of Business and Economics graduation requirements must be approved by the department chairperson and the dean prior to taking the course(s) in question. Minor Requirements 1. Minor requirements in the respective departments are outlined in the Department sections of the catalog. 2. Students with minors are required to maintain an average GPA of 2.50 in all courses required for the minor. 3. Minors are not required of students majoring in the School of Business and Economics except for those who elect the Bachelor of Arts degree in General Economics. Advisement Students who have not completed the Advanced Standing Requirement will receive their advisement from the School of Business and Economics counselor. All students who have achieved Advanced Standing will receive their advisement from faculty advisers assigned by the department in which a student has selected a major. |
