Show Jollity Runs Riot in High School's Annual Carnival Judged from the point of attend ance, decorations, costumes, high spirits, youth and beauty, the Ogden high school annual Classicalia held at the school last night Avas the mo:- successful of any similar event in the history of the school. Principal A. M. Merrill said that the attendance last year wsa GOOD calculated on the basis of the number of tickets sold, and that judged by the throngs last night that record would be broken. Miss Mayme Wright Avas queen and assisted by Miss Sherma Hendershot seated at her right and Miss B. Harris on her left Adewed the costumed couples that passed before her throne and aAvarded the prize to Miss Myrene Rich and Miss Patricia Healy. PR,. jdS AWARDED. The T. N. T. booth,^s aAvarded the prize for the most beautiful booth. Seated in it dressed as Egyptian maidens and AAearing, masks wore Miss Bettie Hurst, Miss Kate Clinton, Miss Marion Cross and Miss Helen Keating. • The color scheme that predominated Avas gray, -white, pink, and sweet peas, Avhile the large assembly room Avas decorated to represent a Japanese umbrella. Moving constantly through the assembly hall Avere the various couples dressed in costumes ranging from South Sea islanders to kings, queens and jokers. Mirth Avas unconfined, jollity ran riot and youth reigned supreme for the night. A feature of the occasion that AA^on instant approval both from those avIio entered and from those who came out Avas the trip through Hell. WEIRD EFFECTS. A. static electricity machine furnished the weird lighting effect and grinning skeletons, greeted the Aisit- ors as they Avou'nd through the tortuous passages, Avalked along the shifting rollers or slid doAvn the chutes Avith screams of glee. Throughout the color scheme the schqol colors of orange and bla.ck Avere conspicuous by their absence. The general committee in charge of decorations was composed of A. T. Barrett and F. C. BraithAvaite. 'Principal Merrill said that last year the Classicalia cleared approximately $1000, .-whic aided materially in reducing the indebtedness due to the printing of the Classicum and purchase of athletic .equipment. He said that he felt certain eA'ent Avould do ns well or better year. NINE BOOTHS. Nine booths entered the competition'-for the prizes and the judges j had'..considerable difficulty in deter- I mining as to Avhich would be awarcl- !ed:*;the second and thi'd pla.ces. These were finally given to the sophomore booth and the senior booth, the sophomore booth getting second place and the senior booth third place. The various booths represented the classes and the clubs of the school. Music for the occasion was furnished by the Ogden high school jazz orchestra. tne the this |
