Show MOUNT LOWE-MOST SPECTACULAR MOUNTAIN RAILWAY TRIP IN THE WORLD Starting from the Main Street Station, 6th and Main Streets, Los Angeles, the route to Mount Lowe traverses the business and industrial sections of the city; thence through the orange-scented residence districts of Oneonta Park and Oak Knoll, and the beautiful city of Pasadena, with its tropical tree-lined streets, flower bedecked mansions and great tourist hotels. On through Pasadena, the route leads to scenic Altadena, a millionaire's colony, and then to Rubio Canyon where the famous Incline ascends the rugged mountain side, unfolding a widening panorama of scenic gems. At the top of the Incline, 3200 feet high, is Echo Mountain, where is located the Lowe Observatory, open free to the public on Saturday, Sunday and holiday evenings. from here the route still leads upward on a solidly built railway that bridges rugged canyons and is hewn out of granite cliffs, with ever-changing vistas of the fertile valleys, Los Angeles, thriving cities, sun-kissed orange groves, snowcapped mountains and the distant sea. At the terminus of the railway, MOUNT LOWE TAVERN, rustic and rugged, bids welcome.
