Show Physical Training Schedule Brings Proficiency In Maneuvers Only girls who demonstrated interest in promoting school enthusiasm were permitted membership in , the Ogden High school Pep club this year, according to Helena Case, physical education instructor. Each of the school's 650-odd girls was given opportunity to join the club through submitting school songs and yells and otherwise proving ability . Their orange and black uniforms, bearing the Tiger insigna, were purchased by the girls themselves. It is their obligation to fan school spirit, get the crowds out to the games, lead in the songs and yells, publicize the school and entertain athletic crowds at intermissions. Their foot-drill exhibitions form achievements obviously not acquired through inactivity. A training schedule as exacting as that required by their R. O. T. C. classmates is all part of the day's work with this pretty ensemble. Their officers are Rama Eyre, president; Shirley Poulton, vice president, and Marian Rubin, secretary. DON'T FALL TOO MOCH IN LOVE, PUPILS URCED Talking At First Assembly, Merrill Puts Damper On Romance Hinting that their new building's high vaulted halls were made for sterner stuff than romance, Principal A. M. Merrill today addressed Ogden high school students in their new gymnasium at the first assembly of the school term. "I hope the girls don't fall too much in love with the boys—and I hope the boys don't fall too much in love with the girls," he told the some 1200 assembled youngsters. He failed to indicate just what amount was "too much." FOR HAPPINESS Other speakers at the assembly were President Ray Stewart of the student body, Glen Eye, vice principal; Miss Zelta Ballinger, dean of women; and Glen Brewer, student. Said Vice Principal Eye, "I hope you can look back on this year as the happiest and most profitable of your school days." President Stewart announced the initials "M.R." had been found scratched on the marble of the new building. He deplored the disfigurement. Glen Brewer reviewed the traditions of the school. Songs and yells by the student body followed. NEW HIGH TOTAL Registration today totalled 1317 —fifteen more than were enrolled during the entire term last year. This record enrollment is expected to inrease by at least 50 next week. Registrations in grades below the eleventh were being re- checked today by principals and teachers. A report is not expected until late Monday. |
