Show SCHOOL PICKS ENTRANTS FOR HYRUM EVENTS Ogden High Forms Team For Regional Music Contests OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford—Editor Barbara Hassing has been chosen mezzo - soprano soloist and Don Bjorklund bass soloist to represent Ogden high school at the regionl music contests Friday and Saturday in Hyrum. Chosen for the boys' quartet were Grant Hinchcliff, Rex Firth, Darrell Anderson, and Sherman Davidson. Constance Ford will be the accompanist for the group. Ruth Taylor, Barba¬ra Hassing, Marge Armstrong, Barbara Fleming, Florence Cashmore and Elsie McKay will represent the school as a double trio. Joy Berry is the accompan¬ist.—Florence Cashmore. Choir Accepts Bid The a cappella choir has ac-cepted an invitation to sing at a teachers' convention, according to Glenn L. Hanson, director. The convention will be held at Salt Lake City, May 19. Choir members have begun work on numbers which will be present¬ed.—George Jensen- Girls' gym classes are taking up new kinds of games. Cham¬pions in each class will be se¬lected in the following sports: Table tennis, shuffleboard, bowl¬ing, golf, checkers, tennequarts, service ball and hit-pin.—Kath¬ryn Ellsworth. Art tudents Busy Art students are being requir¬ed this term to study correct let¬tering and the basic fundamen¬tals of drawing. Composing Songs Girls' junior gym teams are this week composing songs which they will sing as a team at the girls' assembly May 11, when next year's Pep club will be chosen. JUNIORS TRY FOR PEP CLUB Girls To Vie At Special As¬sembly ; Students Pick Officers OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford—Editor At an assembly May 11 junior girls will be given an opportun¬ity to try for a position on the Ogden high pep club. Next year the pep unit will consist of sen¬iors only—juniors who are now members, thirty new girls, and twenty alternates. —- Kathryn Ellsworth. Nominations for next year's school officers were made in advisory classes Thursday. Del¬egates from each room were to meet tonight after school and vote for the nominees chosen from, their own advisory to re¬duce candidates for each office to nine. Ruth Tomlinson left today for Provo to represent the Ogden high school girls in the annual meet for the baseball throw and in tennis. —Virginia Fotis. The Ogden high school musi¬cal trio contest will be conduct¬ed starting next Friday, Ross Ekins, manager of "Tiger Flash¬es," stated today. Two classes of contestants will be entered in the elimination contest. Number one will consist of modern songs and number two class old time melodies and American favor¬ites. Winners will appear on KLO for finalist's prizes. — George Jensen. DEBATE SQUAD TO SUBMIT TO NEW TECHNIQUE Ogden H. S. Group To En¬ter Regional Tourney Friday OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford—-Editor A new debate technique for Og¬den high will be initiated when the team competes in the regional tourney against other members of the big 4 Friday in Salt Lake City, according to Willis Smith, coach. "After each debater completes his speech, the opponent will have the privilege of asking questions pertaining to the subject," Smith said. The team held practice debates with Weber college last week, and leaves Friday morning for the one day tourney. — George Jen¬sen. An "extra special" assembly will be held at eight-forty Friday when results of the Monday night music contest will be announced. Seniors are asked to call at the principal's office for graduation an¬nouncements. They should be order-ed immediately, said Grace Atkin¬son, secretary. Wednesday at four there will be a meet for the seniors. Athletic managers and assistants will be on hand to check the winners. There will be contests in swimming and diving. The topic for debate was "resolved that Ogden High School abolish corsages at social functions". Fashion Show Set The annual Ogden high school fashion show will be conducted Friday, May 27, announces Mar¬garet Corless, sewing instructor. Two hundred girls of the sewing department will conduct the show. The latest styles and fash¬ions will be shown, including sport, evening, afternoon, for¬mal, and graduation dresses. Entertainment will be under the direction of the music depart¬ment. The public is invited. — George Jensen. Debaters Selected Mary Kariya and La Moine Suttlemire will represent Ogden high school in the state high school debating tournament to be held late in May at Salt Lake City. Betty Lou Balch will enter the extemporaneous division in the state meet. "Other members of the school team did exceedingly well in the tournament but did not place as finals," said Mary Woolley, in¬structor.—George Jensen.
