Show PLAY CONTEST TO BE MONDAY Ogden High School Winners Will Enter Festival In Provo OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford, Editor A one-act play contest will be held at Ogden high school Mon¬day at three-fifteen p. m. ac¬cording to May Woolley. The contest winners will be sent to Provo to enter the B. Y. U. speech festival for one-act plays. Lucille Chambers is chairman of the judging committee.—Stomo Ochi. Tne girls' glee club has been studying musical chord structure and key signatures. They are learning to recognize major and minor keys by seeing and hear¬ing chords. Glenn L. Hanson, director says, "This type of work helps the girls gain musical apprecia¬tion, and the real joy of singing is to thoroughly understand the music,"—Kathryn Ellsworth. BALL COSTUME CLOTH ARRIVES Patterns Being Prepared For Dresses To Be Worn At Party OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford, Editor Material for costumes to be worn by girls in the Ogden high school Classicalia, April 8, has arrived and patterns for the dresses are being prepared. Girls may obtain patterns from team captains Friday and pur¬chase the material any time af¬ter that. Several booths will be manag¬ed by clubs at the Classicalia. DANCE FRIDAY A St. Patrick's day dance will be held Friday evening in the school gym with the seniors act¬ing as hosts to the juniors as a result of a student body ticket sales contest. Juniors will be admitted with student body tick¬ets. Seniors will be charged 25 cents. —Katherine Ellsworth. PLAYERS APPEAR The Dramatic Art Guild of the Fine Arts society presented Eu¬gene O'Niel's "Where the Cross Is Made" in the visual education room Wednesday. The cast con¬sisted of Clyde Checkets, Telitha Ellis, Dan Bailey, Grant Neute- boom, David Lund, Victor Syphers and Claramey Patterson. Betty Anne Stewart directed the one-act play. —Stomo Ochi. DEMOCRACY TO BE CHIEF TOPIC Discussion Will Be Held At Parent-Teacher Meeting OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford, Editor Lucille R. Chambers, faculty- member, will speak on "Democracy in the School" at an Ogden high school Parent-Teacher association meeting Wednesday night. She will review opinions of authorities and tell of the responsibility of teach¬ers and parents in carrying out the idea of democracy. The Rev. W. H. Fowle will talk on "Democracy in the Home." Mary Woolley will direct a one-act play.—Margaret Hocking. TEAMS PRESENTED Orators, debaters and extempor¬aneous speakers who entered We¬ber college contests Friday and Saturday, taking several honors, were introduced in today's assem¬bly. Both the A and B basketball teams were introduced and com¬mended by Coaches Kapple and Moesinger for their fine showing during the season.—Kathryn Ells¬worth. "A new era is beginning," said Principal A. M. Merrill, "in a final effort to raise the 'On to St. Louis' a cappella fund. We can't fall down in doing this for the choir." YEARBOOK WORK The printing for the yearbook will be done by Davis & Stoman, Inc., the engraving by The Stan¬dard-Examiner engraving depart¬ment, the photography by Love- land studio of Ogden and the cover by Stevens & Wallis of Salt Lake City. VOTING LEAVES NINE IN QUEEN RACE AT OGDEN Classicalia Selection To Be Made By Balloting Soon OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford, Editor In voting Tuesday in advisory classes the number of nominees for queen of the Ogden high school Classicalia, April 8, was reduced to nine: Mary Barker, Jennie Bekker, Helen Clifton, Is¬abella Edward, Rama Eyre, Lot¬tie Lund, Vivian Polidor, Shirley Poulton, and Margaret Smith. Final voting will be held soon. —Kathryn Ellsworth. A matinee concert will be held Thursday for students of junior and senior high at two-fifteen in the auditorium. Girls Try Out For Classicalia Pageant Solo Parts OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford, Editor Junior and senior Ogden high school students will attend the a cappella choir concert in the auditorium at two-fifteen o'clock Thursday afternoon. The concert will be repeated Thursday evening at eight j o'clock for adults and friends. DANCE FRIDAY A dance will be given Friday evening in the White City ball¬room for the "On to St Louis" fund of the a cappella choir of the Ogden high school. The man¬agement has contributed the use of the hall. Two orchestras will play. The choir will leave at eight p.m. Monday, March 28, and will return April 4. In the recent sale of tickets | for the "On to St. Louis" fund leading ticket sellers were: sec¬ond period, Lois Atkinson, 27; third period, Beryl Dickens, 11; fourth period, Darlene Reynolds five; fifth period, Verda Hale, 18; sixth period, Alice Jensen, 19. The money turned in to date shows the third period with $134 and the fifth period with $127. Taggart said today. The j election will narrow the field to . three girls. Final election is set before April 8. One queen and two maids of honor will be chos¬en. In assembly Friday, a skit will be presented by the nine girls nominated for queen. Second year Spanish class elected officers for the coming term are: president, Eva Greenwell; vice-president, Dan Bailey, secretary, Jeanne John¬son; and Victor Hancock, song- leader.—Gordon Cole. The girls will have a i similar vote to determine the characteristics a boy should have. All students will vote for the 10 most important points of a list of twenty characteristics prepared by a special council body committee. SELECTION MADE In final tryouts held Tuesday ! in girls' gym classes to determine the solo dancers for the Classic¬alia, April 8, Shirley Williams was selected as Apollo. Nedra Silverthorne was chosen as Diana in the third period and Geraldine Wadworth as Phospor in the fifth period.—Kathryn Ellsworth.
