Show CARVER TELLS O. H. S. GRADS OF ADVANTAGES A generation of greater oppor¬tunities was Dr. John E. Carver's appellation for the 561 Ogden high school graduates he addressed at baccalaureate serv¬ices Sunday. Besides the senior class, which filled a section of! the school auditorium, parents, j relatives and friends of the grad¬uates gathered to hear Dr. Carver's sermon and a musical pro¬gram presented by students. "Your future is of your own making," Dr. Carver said. "You have greater opportunities than the youth of fifty years ago, dif¬ferent indeed but greater, for all the tools of invention and science are yours." "The trophies of the mind, body and soul which you win in youth will be the safeguards of j your mature years. It is impos¬sible to perpetuate the rule and thought of the past in the midst of a new environment. Youth ever has the privilege of remak¬ing the world in which it lives. If it were not so there would never have been any progress and the ignorance and supersti¬tion of the past would be the continued rule of today. God never writes "finis" on any of His creative works. You must be formative powers in the new tomorrow. "You have won great trophies in your school years that will cheer and bless you all your days if you give them the op¬portunity. These are the com¬panionship of thought and peo¬ple. Literature has opened to you the world friends who will be ever as near and real to you 'as books. The love of truth and1 learning will always be a com¬panion to you for it is not enough to be learned. Most of all the love of work for the sake of the growth it fosters, is life's near¬est companion. "The pay for your work is never the monetary return. It is the growth and enrichment of the worker for the true remun¬eration of work and service is the expanding life of the doer. "God and Christ are seeking youth for leaders and you must make answer. The youth who will be true to the Christ will find no diminution of either op-; portunity or strength. God needs j you. The age needs you. Fail I ithem not." |
