Was scribe to stake patriarch for seven years, secretary to bishop and typed ward bulletin weekly. Current typist in recorder's office at Ogden L.D.S. Temple. Spent much time in the hospital before and since retirement. Looks after needs of elderly father and crippled brother. DON A BUSWELL 698 East 2850 North, North Ogden, Utah 84404 782-8760 Graduated BYU 1943, spent next three years in the Navy. Protestant Chaplain, Served in France and Italy. Landed Normandy Beach in the Landing Craft Infantry. Graduated University of Oregon Dental School 1949. Instructor at that school for a year before returning to Utah to open dental office. Two terms on Weber State Alumni Council, a term as president. President State Board of Dental Examiners, 5 year term, member of OKU Honorary Society, International College of Dentists. Director United Fund for three years. Welfare Council President, Weber School District PTA President. Active in L.D.S. Church: Ward and Stake MIA president and Sunday School president; Bishop's counselor; Bishop; currently on Stake High Council. Raises Arabian horses, has three acre orchard, raises hay and grain. Member of Weber County Sheriff's Mounted Posse for 26 years. Married to LauRene Thompson. Five children and ten grandchildren, scattered from Alaska to Wichita, Kansas. Family gathers annually for a pack trip into the Wind River Mountains for a week. CLARENCE L. BYRNE 1147 - 36th Street, Ogden, Utah 84403 394-6382 One year Weber College, three years B.Y.U. Graduated B.A. Two years California School of Fine Arts, two years in the U. S. Navy. Worked seven years at Utah General Depot, Engineers and eleven years as Craft Director, Tooele Army Depot. Taught painting, ceramics, sculpture. Retired in 1974. Art exhibits at Palo Alto, California, Brigham City Museum, ZCMI Galleries. Photography exhibit at Brigham Museum. President of Ogden Camera Club for a year. Started music study after age 50, learned to play the cello. Enjoy outdoors, skiing, hiking, canoeing, sailing, camping, cats and Dalmatian dogs, golf, yoga, Wasatch Mountain club. BETTY CALVERT SCHWEIGER 5048 West Sierra Vista, Glendale, Arizona 85301 934-4113 Attended Weber College. Worked in San Francisco for the Corps of Engineers during World War II and taught ballroom dancing part time at a dance studio. Returned to Ogden and worked at First Security Bank. Took a Civil Service job on Guam, met Albert J. Schweiger and was married. First child was born there. Lived in Sinajana Village outside Agana, Guam (not to modern!) Returned to the states to the east coast of Texas, but finally settled in Arizona. Husband opened a refrigerator, air conditiong and heating shop. Same business for 26 years. Three girls, one boy, no grandchildren as yet. Loves the desert but misses Utah during the hot summer months. women's classified service organization. Served as governor of District Ten, consisting of 30 clubs in five states. Active in L.D.S. Church, having served as Stake MIA president and teacher in various organizations. Secretary and newsletter editor for Stake Special Interest group. Hobbies: gardening and travel. Toured Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, Holy Land, various areas in the U.S. and Canada. FRANK BRANCH CARRUTH 1704 - 23rd Street, Oden, Utah 84401 621 -4939 Attended Weber Junior College in 1940-41. Served three years in Army during World War II. Was in Army Reserves for 14 years. Retired from U. S. Postal Service in 1976 after 35 years service. Active in L.D.S. church, having held many church positions including High Council, Bishop's Counselor, teacher and executive in auxiliary organizations. Since retirement has been a temple worker in the Ogden Temple. Married to Mary Roskelley. Four children, two of them married, one grandchild. Last child graduating from Weber College this year. Enjoys golfing greatly since retirement. CLARENCE L. CARTER 4691 South 1980 West, Taylorsville, Utah 84119 968-7763 During World War II served aboard destroyer in the South Pacific. Studied art and worked in a sign shop in St. Paul, Minnesota for five years. For the past 22 years has worked for Sperry Univac in Salt Lake City. A senior inspector, electro-mechanical technician. Married to Betty Reisewitz. Three children, the youngest is 17. Six grandchildren. SALINA CASCIO LICKWAR 969 College Drive, San Jose, California 95128 292-5636 After high school graduation, went into nursing at Dee Hospital, then to Weber College for a year. Moved to California in 1949. Currently employed as executive secretary, Santa Clara County Juvenile Probation Department in San Jose. Married to F. Nicholas Lickwar, a theatre director, actor and producer and a sports announcer. Spent several years as leading member of San Jose Light Opera Association. Lead roles in productions such as Merry Widow, Vagabond King, Song of Norway. Charter member of Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Appeared for several years semi-professionally in San Francisco area with female pops quartet. Traveled extensively throughout Europe as soloist with Santa Clara Chorale, in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Romania and in July 1978 in Poland and Russia. Also a member of a small jazz group called Opus I. Three daughters, seven grandchildren. Will visit one daughter in Japan in July of this year. JANICE CAVE BENNETT 6300 West 6150 South, Hooper, Utah 84315 825-1706 Married to Max L. Bennet (Class of 1939), one son and one granddaughter, aged 9. Employed as a medical secretary at the McKay Dee Hospital for 21 years. Own 10 acres of land where they raise registered quarter horses. Active L.D.S. Church. Served as secretary in MIA and now teaches Social Relations class in Relief Society. Hobbies: making quilts, sewing and yard work. LENORA CAMPBELL MITCHELL 1934 West 1800 North, Clinton, Utah 825-2400 Married to LeRoy Mitchell, Four sons, two girls, seventeen grandchildren. Three sons called on missions for L.D.S. Church. Oldest boy died as a result of accident while in mission field. Traveled in California and Arizona. Oldest daughter lives in Arizona. Attended several adult education classes. Family active in church. One son serves in bishopric. MARIAN CARLSON 291 Chimes View Drive, Ogden, Utah 84403 394-7237 Attended Henager Business College for a year prior to start of government career at the Utah General Depot in 1941. Worked for post engineer, executive assistant to commander and deputy commander of the depot, prior to transferring to the Data System Automation Center. Currently administrative technician, secretary to the Director of this division. Honored as "secretary of the year" for the Ogden area in 1974. Active in civic affairs. Member of Altrusa Club, a CLYDE A. CHECKETTS 1619 East 35th South, Bountiful, Utah 84010 Attended B.Y.U. one year on scholarship, active in dramatic arts. Joined U.S. Marines with 2nd Mormon Platoon, served 38 months in South Pacific and ended up on Okinawa. Worked as inspector at Utah General Depot and in management at Pasco Engineer Depot in Washington. Regional Sales Manager for McCaskey Cash Register Co. in Oregon and Washington, then manager of Victor-McCaskey branch in Utah. Regional Manager for Childers Mfg. Co. of Houston, Texas, currently involved in real estate and mobile home sales. Active in theatre productions in Ogden. Jaycee in Pasco and with Kiwanis Club in Salt Lake City. Married to Edith Jones, a talented musician. Have dedicated lives to growth and development of their five children and nine grandchildren. Daughter Judy is married and lives in Evanston, Wyoming with four children; Janis and her husband are in Gilbert, Arizona with two children. Son Larry served an L.D.S. Mission and now lives with his wife and two sons in Salt Lake City. David served a mission, is now married with one son and attending University of Utah. Youngest son Danny is on a mission in Spain. Worked as legal secretary in fields of bankruptcy, tax and antitrust. Secretary to James C. Schnacke, U. S. Distrist Court Judge, San Francisco. Amateur musicologist; published in Opera News. Chairman Board of Directors Mathiesen Opera Co., also publicity director. Active in San Francisco Opera Merola Opera Program, to promote young singers. Married to J. Marvin Akin. Hobbies: English history, music, ballet, interior decorating, writing, recording opera auditions and dubbing and editing. Active in St. Luke's Episcopal Parish in San Francisco. HELEN COMBE KIEHM 81 7 Massachusetts Avenue, Rock Springs, Wyoming 82901 362-2358 Graduated Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City as registered nurse. Spent some time as graduate in surgery, then as a private nurse. Worked in Hill Field Dispensary during World War II. After marriage to Louis Kiehm in 1945, moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming and worked at Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital in various wards. Now retired. Six children (five boys, one girl) and seven grandchildren (six girls, one boy). One son is a professor at University of Wyoming, two sons still living at home. Husband in sales for Pacific Gamble Robinson Co. Enjoys square dancing, camping and travel. Hobbies: liquid embroidery, sewing, crocheting and the grandchildren. LOYAL CHRISTENSON NYE 4525 Clearbrook Lane, Kensington, Maryland 942-7262 Resided in Salt Lake City and Pttsburgh, Pennslyvania for husband's graduate work. Lived in Norfolk, Virginia and Fresno, California and now in Washington, D.C. area where husband was involved in medical research. Both now retired! Taught pre-school. Had additional training at Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia and Mental Health Skills Center in Washington, D.C. Active Presbyterian. Author of child's book "What Color Am I?" published by Abingdon in 1977 and listed on the Best Buy Book List for 1978 by Cokesbury Book Guild. Married to Delbert L. Nye (class of 1938), conventional parents of four adventurous children. Christian is an ocean geologist and licensed sailing captain; Miles (married) is a writer and delivers boats thru coastal waters; Elizabeth studied ballet and is now studying voice (opera) in New York City; Kevin, former merchant seaman, member of Waylords, returns to college in fall. BARBARA CLAUSSE SILBER 901 Venice Drive, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904 622-0034 Attended Weber College, majored in business. Married John J. Silber in 1941 and has three married daughters and nine beautiful grandchildren. Moved to Maryland in 1949. Worked 10 years as secretary at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Hobbies: knitting, needlepoint, sewing, gardening and classes to learn many new hobbies. MARY KATHRYN CLAYPOOL FORD 5280 South 2000 West, Roy, Utah 84067 825-8815 Happily married to Albert H. Ford for 35 years, two lovely children (one girl, one boy). Three grandchildren. Attended Ogden Business College. Worked at Utah General Depot from 1942 to 1947. Started working again in 1960 at Hill Air Force Base Has belonged to different dancing groups; enjoys working with people. Den mother and Primary teacher in L.D.S. church. Active in PTA while children were young. Enjoys traveling, especially to Anaheim, California where daughter and family reside. Enjoys fishing trips with husband to Jackson Hole and Flaming Gorge areas. Looking forward to retirement and spending winters in Arizona or California. ZENNA CLUFF BURK 9292 Bailey Lane, Fairfax, Virginia 22031 691-1673 Married to Richard Burk (class of 1939), two sons, Scott of Sunset, Utah and Michael of Eugene Oregon, one grandson, one granddaughter. Married in 1943 and has lived in California, Florida, New Jersey, North Dakota, Illinois and Virginia. When children were grown, returned to work as executive secretary. Awaiting retirement this year to return to Utah. Hobbies: music, bridge, needlepoint, and "of course my grandchildren!" Has lived and traveled all over the United States, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii, making a grand circle tour and returning to Utah in 1960. Active in L.D.S. church, holding stake and ward positions. Filled a genealogical mission. Loves gardening, homemaking, sewing, knitting, crafting, genealogy, my grandson and his doings, camping, boating, rock hounding and fishing - life in general. Twelve grandchildren, aged 14 to 3 months. Husband in government work, transferred frequently and made homes in eight different cities while raising six children. Lived in San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C. Oklahoma and now in Texas, Avid sports fans, enjoying the Dallas Cowboys, the Rangers, etc. Works in school library, active in the girls softball league and cares for elderly mother: Hobbies: swimming, ceramics and best of all baby sitting the grandchildren! LYLE D. CONNELL 324 Oaklawn Drive, Pittsburgh,Pa. 15241 833-5208 Graduated from University of Utah in mechanical engineering and obtained Masters Degree in business administration from Stanford University. Spent most of professional career with Westinghouse in Sunnyvale, California and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in management positions, related largely to the field of quality assurance and reliability, including that of corporate manager of quality control with responsibilities for over 100 divisions of Westinghouse. Traveled extensively in United States and more recently regarding overseas projects in Europe and Far East. Active in professional societies. Married to Gwen Cramer, four sons (all single). Active in L.D.S. Church in various positions, most of which involved Boy Scouts activites. Enjoys the outdoors, has many hobbies including woodworking. Attended University of Utah and then took nurses training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston "to help the war effort." The war ended first but did complete nursing education and received a secondary teachers certificate. Also did a stint of duty in the Army Nurse Corps during the Korean conflict. Served in various nursing capacities, mostly in supervisory positions in hospitals and in teaching assignments in academic schools of nursing. Later did health-related community work. Married to Harold Lester Jones, a professor and chairman of the accounting department at University of Idaho. Two daughters, one in high school, one in college. Church affiliation Roman Catholic. Currently works in library at the University. Hobbies: genealogy, free lance writing. GLORIA COONEY KINNE 1900 West 3800 South, No. 8, Roy, Utah 84067 731-2706 Attended Weber College two years, worked at Hill Air Force Base for five years, the Veterans Administration for one year. Married Charles W. Kinne and took time out to have three children. (Recently divorced.) After 19 years of being a housewife, returned to work in the Internal Revenue Service and retired from there in 1974. Both sons are married, with a total of five grandchildren. Enjoys camping and fishing, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Attends L.D.S. Church, works occasionally in brother's machine shop. Lives in a mobile home. ATHALENE CORDON LYNCH 294 East 1250 North, Bountiful, Utah 295-8520 Married to Kenneth D. Lynch, three grown sons (Craig, Gary and Mark) and one daughter, Julie Lynch. Seven and a half grandchildren!
