Also designated pilot examiner, authorized to issue pilot certificates at all levels, including airline transport pilot and flight instructor. Used to raise and race field trial dogs (English Pointers). "My dog beat the best amateur dog handler in the U.S.A." "Discovered I had a good voice" and took leading parts in civic opera. Abandoned doctor's career for a career on the stage. Joined a group as a singer. Appeared in Las Vegas at the Last Frontier and El Rancho Vegas and up and the Pacific Coast. Marriage ended in divorce. At age 35 "came back home" to enroll at University of Utah as a junior in education. Following graduation in 1957, taught English and Drama in Ogden. Given over 1500 travel lectures, traveled extensively (sometimes 39 countries in one year), personally escorted over 3000 people to Hawaii and 4000 to the Caribbean! Picket, a professor of journalism at University of Kansas, was on sabbatical leave. He did research in British museums. Drove over 8000 miles to all parts of the country. Two daughters: Carolyn who teaches Spanish and French in Chandler, Arizona (B.A. and M.A. from Univ. of Kansas); Kathleen has scholarship and doing graduate work at Univ. of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music; is graduate of Kansas University in music and journalism.
