Twenty years ago moved to Utah Department of Transportation as Bridge Construction Engineer, last ten years as Chief Structural Engineer. Member of a number of national committees working on various phases of concrete and steel bridge design. Married to Barbara Bailey, two children, seven grandchildren. Major hobby is travel. Flew combat missions during World War II as an aircraft commander of B-25 and B-24 aircraft. With 8th Air Force in England. Attended Air Force Institute of Technology and received mechanical engineering degree from University of Arizona. Returned to the combat zone during the Korean conflict, piloted the B-29 and B-47. Served as project engineer for Atlas Missiles with the Materiel Command and then with the Configuration Control Board of the Atlas up-date program. Prior to Vietnam served as weapon systems engineer with space and electronic systems. Again during the Vietnam War he served as an aircraft commander and flew over 125 combat missions. He was then chief of service engineering division in Sacramento, California and retired as a full colonel in June of 1972. Married in 1944 to Madeline L. Glover from Tucson, Arizona. Three children, two girls and one boy; three grandchildren, two boys and one girl. Hobby: cabinet work, enjoying retirement! CLAIR J. Currently employed as engineering technical artist at Eaton-Kenway in Bountiful. Vice president of the Palette Club of Ogden, member of Western Art Guild and Utah Poetry Society. Worked 23 years for government: Ogden Arsenal, Fort Douglas and Hill Air Force Base. Now retired. Helping husband build cabin at Bear Lake, Utah. "Never thought I'd be a carpenter's, plumber's, builder's helper!" Two sons, Jan and Chris, two grandchildren. Enjoys bowling, sewing, making clothes, cooking. Joined Marine Corps, served for 20 months on Midway and three months on Guam. Discharged in 1945. Prior to going overseas, was bayonet drill instructor, at the time the Utah "Mormon Batallion" came through for training. Worked for Sears in San Diego, then called back to active duty, went to Korea and made the Inchon landing in 1950. Worked for Sears again and retired after 28 years of service. Married to Faye Curtis from Victor, Idaho. She is an R.N. One son, Geoffrey Curtis, who completed L.D.S. mission in Chili. Daughter, Leslie Jean. Three grandsons, one granddaughter. Active L.D.S. Church: Sang in choirs. Elders Quorum presidency, Sunday School president, teacher of youth. Hiked with wife down Bright Angel trail to Colorado River, also the Butch Cassidy country. Met wife, June Frances Shober while at Camp Adair in Oregon, and moved to Oregon after discharge. Worked for Pacific Northwest Bell telephone company for over 33 years. Started as lineman, then foreman in cosntruction, building service foreman, supplies foreman, safety supervisor and building maintenance supervisor. Very active L.D.S. church. "Didn't travel much but ran a 40 acre farm and raised five BEAUTIFUL children that any parent would be proud to claim."'Four boys, one gin, three married, six grandchildren. Also one daughter and two grandchildren by first marriage. Wife teaches sewing and machine embroidery. |
