Show Remember When... We were students at Ogden High School - the first Junior class in the brand new million dollar building "Stage Door" was presented by the drama department starring Betty Lou Balch . . . The Holly Hop was held at the White City Ballroom just before Christmas . . . The A Cappella Choir sang on national radio, representing the State of Utah on the American Youth Broadcast series . . . The Ogden High Tigers took the Region One football title with Tiger stars Arnold Roe, Bud Hulmston, Sid Foulger, Rod Dunn and Keith Gale . . . The Ogden Standard Examiner presented the school with a new automatic electric scoreboard for the gym . . . R.O.T.C. "E" Company, under leadership of Capt. Clair Boyle, performed during intermission at the Military Ball . . . The class of '39 wrote and published "Tiger Highlights" for the first time - Keith Wilcox designed the masthead, Stomo Ochi was editor and Kathryn Ellsworth assistant editor . . . LaMar Pearce and Ken Heywood won Utah State Golden Glove championships . . . Geneal Greaves and Richard West co-managed "Tiger Flashes" broadcast over radio station KLO . . . Six pianists played "Deep Purple" and "Rhapsody in Blue" in unison on six synchronized concert grand pianos at the Souvenir Concert . . . Mickey Whitney, Clair Whitely were our Senior Yell Leaders . . . Ogden High entered a baseball team in the state association for the first time since 1916 and won the division championship with Scott Gudmundson and Jack Hazen as captains . . . Emma Martin was chosen Queen of the Classicalia with her court: Phyllis Brophy, Edna Brown, Helen Brown, Shirley Hendrickson, Ruth Packer, Virginia Rockwell, Betty Smalley and Athleen Woods - with an "Old Fashioned Garden" as the dance theme . . . we held the "first" Winter Snow Carnival on Washington's Birthday . . . Louise Dixon was second place winner in the Ogden- Weber High School D.A.R. oratorical contest ... we all attended matinee dances every Wednesday after school . . . Dan Bailey won honorable mention in the 10th Annual National Scholastic awards literary division, with a one-act play entitled "Doris" . . . Phyllis Brophy, Girls Association President, attended Student Leaders Conference in Salt Lake City . . . Gale Rose served as editor and Betty Smalley as assistant editor of the Classicum . . . The Regional Music Festival was held at Ogden High with some 1500 students from seven high schools participating . . .The Sub Debs, with Charlene Smith as President, was organized to help girls develop charm and personality . . . The Writers Guild completed a history of Ogden High with Stomo Ochi and Ida Rose Langford in charge . . . Clyde Checketts, Grant Neuteboom, Spencer Peterson, Kenneth Porter, Richard West and Keith Wilcox starred in "The Tale of the House of Usher", broadcast over KLO . . . The Junior Red Cross conducted a toy drive at Christmastime . . . Betty Lou Balch was chosen as Utah State DAR representative and traveled to Washington, D.C. . . . Arnold Roe, Bob Sneddon, Hugh Rounds and Rod Dunn were named in the All-State football selections . . .Gordon Cole was in charge of all intra-school advertising . . . Lily Cole, Beth Hansen and Erma Nelson were named best yearbook saleswomen . . . The Senior Boys chose their ideal girl - the ability of Betty Lou Balch, the personality of Athleen Woods, talent of Ruth Taylor, complexion of Beverly Butterfield, hair of Phyllis Brophy, eyes of Zenna Cluff, teeth of Emma Martin, eyelashes of Jean Bedford, figure of Dorothy Wessler and the sweetness of Betty Smalley . . . and the girls chose their ideal boy: the physique of Rod Dunn, profile of Sid Foulger, hair of Grant Neuteboom, eyes of Fred Schofield, eyelashes of Cliff Morgan, voice of Jack Larsen, ability of Dan Bailey, smile of Clair Boyle and the wink of Kay Crockett . . . George Jensen and Kathryn Ellsworth edited the daily column of Ogden High School news in the Standard Examiner . . . The A Cappella Choir presented a Christmas cantata "Christ in the World" with soloists Ruth Taylor, Grant Hinchcliff, Frank Wilcox, Neal Moss and Loyal Christensen . . . Arnold Roe and Mary Kariya delivered addresses at our commencement exercises . . . Earl Tanner and Robert Bischoff, undefeated in nine debates, took first place in the men's division at the 6th Annual Speech Contest - Blair Evans and Maurice Richard took second; Betty Lou Balch and Mary Kariya took 3rd in the women's division . . . students competing in the annual commercial contest at BYU were Margaret Kaneko, Marjorie Hampton, Mildred Ranson and Dorothy Daniger in advanced typing; Marie Ingels, Mary Lou Brown and Salina Cascio were the shorthand team; Roy Behling, Richard Carruth, Albert Oberg and Victor Syphers in bookkeeping.
