Has served as a member and president of the Ogden City Board of Education, as member and assistant mayor of the Ogden City Council; member of the board and vice president of the National Association of Regional Councils; and many local, state and national councils and committees. Active L.D.S. Church, served as stake clerk, bishop and high councilman. Married to Lois Nelson, five daughters, three married, eleven grandchildren. In 1971 returned to work part-time. Six years with the Forest Service and presently with Farmers Home Administration. Six grandchildren, two more expected this year. Member of the Does, Eagles and Catholic Church. Secretary of credit union and USWA also officer in Eagles Auxiliary. Traveled throughout the West, Canada and Mexico. One son, Ray L. Bertoldi, married with two sons and two daughters, manager of Zales Jewelry in Salt Lake City. Hobbies are bowling, golfing, dancing and music. Discharged after four years as Chief Petty Officer. Baker for 42 years, quit because of health. At present building and plant superintendent with the city school system. Graduated from Utah State University in 1943 with a teaching degree in elementary education. Vice-president of student body and member of Otyokwa Sorority at Weber. Student body secretary at Utah State and received the citizenship award. A member of Chi Omega Sorority and upon graduation, elected to Phi Kappa Phi, honorary scholastic fraternity. Married Melvin L. Schwartz, also graduate of Utah State, in June 1943. Three children: Elaine S. Dalton, Melvin and Robert. All college graduates. Five "beautiful grandchildren and am a silly old grandmother over them." A sixth is due in July. Husband died in 1966. First grade teacher in Ogden for 23 years. Loves travel, especially Hawaii. Church jobs include teaching in MIA, Sunday School, Primary, Jr. Sunday School chorister and Relief Society secretary. Married to George Larsen, a machinist for C.C.I, in Salt Lake City. Five children, two boys, three girls, eight grandchildren. Girls graduated Weber State and boys graduated from Utah Technical College in Salt Lake. Hobbies: fishing and traveling. LAPRIEL MATHIAS CARLTON 3037 Circle Way, Ogden, Utah 84403 393-1627 Attended Weber State College, major in business administration. Worked for Wheelwright Lumber Company as a bookkeeper, then went to work at Hill Air Force Base. An administrative officer there at the time of retirement. While at Hill was elected or appointed to Hill Administrative Club, Federal Women's Program and Civilian Council, holding offices in all of them. Also received several awards for performance. Since retirement has worked on political campaigns and is member of the Weber County Hospital Foundation Board. Hobbies: bridge, golf, fishing, reading. Married to David A. Carlton. No children. SHELDON JACK MATTSON 3855 Brinker Avenue, Ogden, Utah 84403 394-0468 Attended Weber College for a year. Worked at Ogden Arsenal until enlistment in the U.S. Army in August 1942. Served with the 36th Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy. Received disability discharge from Bushnell General Hospital in February 1945. Hired out as a locomotive fireman for the Southern Pacific and promoted to locomotive engineer in 1954. Married Laura Sill's "little sister" Arline in 1948. One son, one daughter, five grandchildren. BERNICE McENTIRE DUNFORD 1440 Millbrook Way, Bountiful, Utah 84010 295-6222 Attended Weber State College and Brigham Young University. Married William S. Dunford and traveled with husband while in military service. Then lived in Baltimore, Maryland for 12 years while husband attended medical school and completed a surgical residency. While there served as Relief Society president, husband as bishop. Served in all church capacities, including Relief Society president three times. Hobbies include reading, traveling, volunteer work, grandchildren, bowling. Lived in Bountiful 20 years. Four children, "two gorgeous girls, two handsome boys." All married, six grandchildren. VIRGINIA MILLIGAN BARTY 1222 Vista Court, Muscatine, Iowa In U. S. Navy 1944-46. Lived in Ogden, Detroit, Fort Walton Beach and Clearwater, Florida, St. Charles, Missouri and moved to Muscatine, Iowa this May. Married in 1951, widowed March 1978. Two daughters, one son, all married, two granddaughters. Traveled last summer to Ogden, San Francisco, Houston, Cincinnati and St. Louis to visit family. Active in Episcopal Church, helped form St. Peters Mission in Layton, Utah in 1958 and served on various committees and guilds, Hobbies: enjoying family, mostly grandchildren, needlework, crosswords and reading. BARBARA MINTER DE WIT 2812 Thrasher Lane, San Jose, California 95125 269-3348 Married 38 years in December. Two married sons, one in Fresno, one in Gardena, California. Ray is marine biologist and Gary manager of a California chain auto supply store. One granddaughter, three grandsons. Husband, Jerry De Wit, sales engineer for a safety company for past 20 years. After sons established in school, began working part- time in insurance work and still in insurance 22 years later! Active in hobbies: sewing, bridge and collecting antiques (cut glass a specialty). HUGH CONWEY (CON) MORRIS 5035 Burch Creek Drive, Ogden, Utah 479-7093 Attended Weber College, drafted into Army and served as captain in Field Artillery in the Pacific Theater until discharge in 1946. Married Joyce Lutz in June that year. Returned as pre-dental student at Weber and University of Utah. Graduated from University of Oregon Dental School in June 1954. Returned to Ogden and opened dental practice. Six children (set of twins) and two grandchildren. Past president of Ogden Exchange Club, Weber State College Alumni and Weber District Dental Society. Member South Ogden Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment. Member Weber-Morgan Board of Health and Ogden Golf and Country Club. Currently serving 5 year term as member of Utah State Board of Dental Examiners. CARL DAVID MOSS 1030 South 1075 East, Clearfield, Utah 84015 773-2225 Attended Weber College. Went to work at the railroad and retired after 37 years as an electrician for Union Pacific. Lots of travel, hunting and fishing. Europe two years ago and "writing this biography from Germany."Married to Maxine L. Larsen. One son in the Navy in Hawaii, one daughter in Germany with Army pilot husband and family one step-son in the Navy at Chula Vista, California; three step-daughter and nine grandchildren. Not "voted the most successful but having a great time!" HAL W. MOSS Rte. 3, Taylor Street, Eagle Idaho 83616 939-6926 Drove a truck after high school graduation. In service during the War for almost five years, 41 months in the South Pacific. Started working for Western Auto in 1948 driving in western states - four million miles of driving! Will retire in 1980. Moved from Utah to Idaho in 1970. Married to Laura B. Church of Neosho, Missouri. One son, one daughter, one foster son and seven grandchildren. Active L.D.S. church. Traveled extensively in U.S.A., Canada and Alaska. Enjoys riding and working horses, camping, fishing, and square dancing. Grows a good vegetable garden. "Life has been good and happy." HARRY PAUL NASFELL 2956 Childs Avenue, Ogden, Utah 392-1792 Attended Weber State College, then service with the U. S. Coast Guard. Active L.D.S. church worker, ten years as bishop's counselor, eight years as bishop of Eleventh Ward. Presently Scoutmaster of Troop 23. Received District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver from Boy Scouts of America. Recipient of Weber County Sterling Carnation Award for work in the Big Brothers program. Assisted boys at State Industrial School by providing home visits and finding foster homes. Field loan officer for Federal Employees Credit Union. Currently works as foreman at Defense Mapping Agency in Clearfield. Has taken over 60 boys on 50 mile hikes in the desert and mountains and assisted with Girl Scout winter camp-outs. With family has traveled in most of the U.S. Likes camping, hiking and fishing. Hobby is photography. |
