The Tigers battle Logan in a headliner in the northern region Saturday at the stadium. Two of the men expected to as¬sist the Tigers in this contest are pictured below. Greenwell, left, is one of the best forward passers ever developed at the Tiger lair while Kennedy, right, is a brilliant kicker and back. These two men are expected to sparkle in the matinee Saturday. Orange Streaks Oppose Logan Saturday In Headline Game Ogden High footballers, one of the three favorites in the northern di¬vision football race, battle the strong Logan eleven on the Ogden stadium turf Saturday at two-thirty o'clock in one of the two scheduled games of the week in this section of the state. The Tigers and Grizzlies will engage in short drills today in final preparation for the headline event. Both teams are reported unusually strong in the defensive depart¬ment of play with the Tigers holding a slight edge in the offensive sec¬tor. Coach Baldy Simkin of the Tigers believes he has the best team in togs at the Orange Streak lair in years. The 1933 edition is well balanced in all departments and has fine reserves. "We are hoping for a league championship in the grid sport," said Coach Simkin today. "Our team is colorful and for the first time in many years we are well fortified with reserves. "Logan will send down a powerful machine and we anticipate another struggle of the type of the game of last year. In this particular con¬test the Grizzlies nosed us out 13 to 7 in the waning minutes of play." Greenwell and Kennedy are the big shots of the Tiger backfield, Greenwell is looked upon as one of the finest scholastic forward pass¬ers since the days of Bill Glasmann. He is expected to sparkle against the Loganites. Saturday's contest will be the only major game in the state and a fine attendance is anticipted. Weber High and Box Elder clashed this afternoon at the stadium in the other league game. Soggy Field Looms For Headline Tilt In Brigham City Four Contests This Week In Region One; Weber Meets North Cache Ogden High footballers, boasting the best team in years at the Tiger lair, are hard at work this week in preparation for their championship game with Box Elder at Brigham City Friday afternoon. The contest is scheduled for the Bee field at two-thirty sharp. Indications point to a soggy field for the traditional clash. The Tigers and Bees, after an en¬tire week of rest, are expected to wage a four period battle. If the field is soggy the odds will favor the Bees. Coach Baldy Simkin of the Tig¬ers reports that his men are in splendid trim. The same lineup that opened against Logan two weeks ago will get the call when the con¬test gets underway. Cole and Kinnard are booked for duty at wings with Randall and Barker at tackles. DeCorso and Call will start at guards and the veter¬an Higgins will perform at center. In the backfield the Tigers will start Burbidge at quarterback; Greenwell and Wayment at half¬backs and Kennedy at fullback. Greenwell and Kennedy are ex¬pected to sparkle against the Bees. Mecham, a great open field runner and line plunger, will carry the hopes of the Bees in the ball toting department. Coach Earl Ferguson of the Box Elder aggregation anticipates a four period struggle. He is prepared to shoot the works against the Tigers. The winner of the Ogden-Box Eld¬er contest is favored to complete the balance of the season undefeat¬ed. This may necessitate a play off with Preston. Football fans of this section have their eyes focused on the Ogden-Box Elder battle. Weber will journey to North Cache for another league battle while South Cache playes at Logan. Pres-ton meets the Bear River machine in the other league matinee. |
