This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Saturday, January 15 Dr ordered me to stay in bed today. Slept some this afternoon Also read History of Abram & family. Cleone came down & fixed Drs lunch. Lucile & her friend Edna Sutton called. Drs cough better. Dr is fixing his income tax quite a job. Pays over 1,000.00 on this. Recd a nicely type written letter from Oertel also a letter from David Peery Sunday, January 16 Dr & I, Lucile & Heber & Mrs Edna Sutton attended Sunday School in the 5th Ward Mt Ogden Stake. A very good lesson from Old Testement. Dr & I had dinner at Cleones. Dr made call on Bakers he & I called on Rupbert Knowles also Mrs Flygare (Mittie) who are ill. No on called during the day. This evening we attended Sacrament meeting at our ward 20th Ward of Weber Stake gave the programme. 60 voices in chorus all real young people Very good. Monday, January 17 Letter from Mary I did not get up until 1030 A.M. cooked lunch for Dr. At 2 P.M. I attended board meeting of Daughters of Pioneers Weber Co. at U.S.O. Hall. A very good buisness meeting. Arranged for Anual Ball. Voted to accept insurance offer of 86.00 for shingles blown off The Co would only pay 50 percent of the cost. Heard recommendation of Nominating Com & voted to sustain present dau offcers & Boar for 2 yr longer & relect them in Feb. 26. Owing to conditions brought on by the War. Recd a v mail letter from Thair. Dr still coughing. Tuesday, January 18 Had some buisness down town this afternoon went with Lucile. Recd letter from Mary. So many articles are scarce. We bought garbage cans as one could not buy them the past year. White cotton yardage is also getting scares. The Fifth loan fourteen billion dollars opened today for U.S. Dr took 700.00 bond today. No 4 Drive. This evening Dr and I went to a picture show our first in months. Lassie a dog. We enjoyed. The War news makes one feel sad, the Sacrifice the Servicemen ar emaking causes one to feel we are doing little in comparison. |
