THE OGDEN STANDARD EXAMINER SUNDAY, MORNING, OCTOBER 1, 1944 Great Pianist Arhur Rubinstein Artist Will Play in Ogden Oct. 6 Arthur Rubinstein, reputed to be one of the greatest living pianists, will be presented at the Ogden high school auditorium, Oct. 6 at eight p. m. as the first feature on the seasons program of the Ogden Community concert Weber college series. This artist, who had a quarter of a million dollar Victor records sale in one year, was born in 1890 in Lodz, Poland, the youngest of seven children by nine years. He displayed musical talent at the age of three, and the doting inhabitants of Lodz presented him for his fourth birthday with visiting cards bearing the inscription Arthur Rubinstein, artist musician. Two years later Arthur gave a concert for charity in Warsaw and at the age of eight, studied in that city with Prof. Rozucki. In a few months, however, he had absorbed all that tutelary could provide. Joachim, noted pedagogue of Berlin, later resumed responsibility for Rubinsteins musical future for eight years during which time he sent him to study piano technique with Prof. Heinrich Barth. The amazing child was placed also with Max Bruch and Robert Kahn for instruction in composition and harmony. At eleven, he made his formal debut in Berlin, playing Mozart Concerto in A minor, with Joachim conducting the orchestra. By the time he was fifteen young Rubinstein had spread his talents to encompass most of Germany and Poland. Joachim also sent his young charge to visit Paderewski who was so enchanted with the youths ability that he prevailed upon him to prolong his stay for three months.
