Col. Thair Rich Dr. and Mrs. Edward I. Rich, 2475 Jefferson, have received a cable from their son, Thair, stating he has been advanced to the rank of full colonel in the medical corps of the U. S. army. Col. Rich went from London to Paris in the early days of the invasion, when there was still fighting in the streets of Paris. His business was to take over the hospitals, evacuated by the Germans, and locate the various allied medical units as they arrived from the front. He said the Germans evacuated the city so rapidly that they left the hospitals without damage and with full equipment. The hospitals are some of the finest in the world. He says little in his letters, but states he has a bigger job on hand than he ever expected to have. Col. Rich has been in the army for nine years, and spent three years in Panama in the Gorgas hospital. He has been overseas for a year and a half. His wife, the former Clotell Budge, and two children, reside in Los Angeles. A brother, Major Junior Edward Rich, is on his way to the south Pacific with the army medical corps.
