Show 900 Plane Sky Train Bore Paratroopers By Associated Press Some figures on the invasion of France More than 900 C47 troop transports and gliders were used in the opening blow. The train, nine planes wide, was 200 miles long as it went across the English channel 300 feet above water. Today another train, 50 miles long, poured in reinforcements. Thirteen thousand individual flights were made by allied planes in the first day of invasion. Premier Churchill said 11,000 planes were available. On the seas were 4,000 ships and many more lighter craft. |
